Hi!

My name is from BA argentina and I have ben caring for my Dad

for 4 years

with LBD. Until last year we managed with meds but as from June 2008 his memory

went

worse and has had day care till Feb 2009 when went down the rollercoaster as you

saiy. All

the year long he had his ups and downs but now he is getting worse. We cannot

manage to

get him seated for more than 10 min and apart from pacing all along the house he

can stand

for hours on end looking at the floor and picking up things tiring both my

brother and me and

both of his caregivers.

I haven't written but read the mails in the group for years, which has been of

great help to

understand this desease.

Thanks to all those who shared their experience and sad stories, which makes us

all stronger

to face this suffering.

Happy new Year to all

And let´s rejoice on the love we can give to our loved ones.

I wish I knew! Butch did that a lot too before this last fall where he broke a

few ribs. He's

not had much strength since then. But, before thathe would walk around the house

constantly and was not resting much at all. I could usually distract him with

food or by

telling him it was a holiday and he had the day off. He told us it was part of

his routine too

and he was working. Butch was a mail carrier for years and as his disease

progresses, he

is obsessed with " delivering " mail. He was putting all the mail together and

rubber

banding it together. Then, he'd look for his mail truck all over the house so he

could go

deliver the mail to the other house with the same address as ours. It can be

exhausting

on a caregiver when their LO is in this state of mind. You have to watch them

closely or

they may get outside and wander off and Butch was so unsteady, we had to watch

him to

try and make sure he didn't fall (which happens anyway,

you can't prevent all of their falls, its impossible). Hang in there!

Subject: Pacing

Dad paces every now and then ... but lately it has been getting overbearing.

...He paces

from room to room or from upstairs to downstairs.. for hours on end.. One time..

he

literally walked for 18 hours.. only stopping when I said he needed to eat.

The following day he would complain of pain... of course... There are times he

doesnt

believe me when i tell him he has been pain all day. Most sleeping meds dont

work or just

aggravate the symptoms.. I have tried herbal rememdies but no result..

Does anyone have tips on how to handle this?... He says it's part of the routine

when

asked about it and it has been tough for me to deal with.. Any advice?

Hello ,

I like you do more reading than writing and I also have learned a lot. Good luck

with your father. It is a sad thing. My mother is not quite that bad yet, and I

am so sad at the thought of it.

Again, good luck and take care.

Robin
