Guest guest
I just had my uae on thursday Sept. 27. History: first discovered the fibroid summer of 1999. They said it was 7cm x 8cm. submucosal. I was never told about uae by the doctor, I didn't want myo or hyst, so I started getting accupuncture and studying ayervedic medicine as an alternative. There was no noticable improvement. In Feb. 2000, I saw an article about uae in Self magazine. I called my ins. and found out that it's not covered under my plan. Then I saw an IR who assured me that it would be no problem getting approval-he was wrong. I got a computer and started to learn all kinds of things about fibroids and how to do an appeal. I got a lot of help from Carla Dionne (www.nuff.org)(Thank you Carla!) and others on this list and the attorney general from my state (contacting him was 'greeneyes' idea. (Thank you greeneyes!) I studies medical journals and wrote my own appeal and finally won! Sept. 2001. I went in for an MRI and found out that the fibroid(s)is now 12cm x 8cm x 14cm and intramural. Sept. 27-had UAE. It was a BREEZE! They put me on a morphine pump with a button I could control, but I never had to use it. The only part that hurt some was inserting the catheter (they had a hard time finding my urethra). I was awake throughout, but pretty relaxed and when it was over, they brought me to the room and I had to lie flat for 6 hours. After that they took the catheter out and on my first trip to the bathroom, I became very dizzy and nauseous. I threw up everytime I stood up for the rest of the day and the next morning, it was the morphine that caused the nausea. A hospital is no place to relax! It was noisy and hard to sleep. They let me go the next day at 2:00. I went home and slept most of the day. Once the morphine wore off, I felt pretty good. They gave me percocet for pain. I haven't had to take much-325mg twice a day. They also gave me toradol (anti-inflammitory) and cipro (to guard against infection). They also told me to take a lot of laxatives, which have just started to kick in with a vengence! I only have a tiny incision where my leg meets my body and they embolized both arteries through the one incision. This was so easy, I hope it works! I feel almost normal already, just a little cramping. I also have light spotting. Any questions about the procedure or fighting insurance, feel free to email me privately.
