I set my lancelet on 4 for my thumbs and 5 for the other fingers. When I first started, my doctor had told me to use a '3' setting. Didn't take me long to learn. Once in awhile I'll still bruise my finger but it doesn't hurt much. I don't mind the sticking at all. Eunice
Guest guest
Testing two hours after meals is a good way to check how well you are following a diet, how good your blood sugar control is and whether your medication needs adjusting. Set your lancet injector to a very low setting. I am using " 2 " . Wash your hands in warm water to increase blood circulation to your hands, and squeeze the fingertip you wish to use. Use your lancet on the side of the finger just below the nail. Use an alcohol swab to wipe the location after lancing.I hope this helps. Agape. My doctor also told me to test before breakfast and after dinner. I did that for about six months, then got to wondering what kind of readings would I get after breakfast or lunch. I changed my schedule without discussing it with my doctor. The only way you will find out what you can and cannot eat, is by testing (usually 2 hours) after eating something different. When my doctor saw my log with the different schedule, she did not say anything about my changing it. When you test is not as important as keeping your bg's as normal as possible and the only way to do that is to eat then test to get the reaction. Just my opinion, but this is what works for me. Guest guest
Hi Eunice I test sometimes 2 hours after eating. That's how I found out I can have a huge bowl of oatmeal, if it's the plain oatmeal with honey and cinnamon in it and splenda. One of my favorite treats of the day is my bf cause I can eat a big one as I'm active all through the day and the way I fix the oatmeal I've tested 2 hours later and my sugar is only 115-120. So something is working! Dottie
Guest guest
Hi the 115-120 after oatmeal is just one thing I can do. But if I eat pizza, or anything with an icing on it, oh my gosh.........trouble!!!!!!!!!! Then I have gotten 139-154 readings 2 hours after a meal too, then I panic and exercise then it goes down to 79 or something then I panic again. But we all get goofy sometimes. After you do this for a while you get a very good idea what foods can do to your system... 115-120 after a meal is very impressive... Good for you! lword ==== http://communities.msn.com/DiabetesNotes/
Guest guest
My midday meal is consistently in the 140-160 and my Haibc is 6.0 and has been for a year now. You know there is argument that it is more about being consistent and not having wild ups and downs. Guest guest
Hi, list, I'm having a " wild ride " as far as my Bg levels the last month. I thought it was the antibiotics I was taking for the cold; but it still continues. Last night I took my level at 2 a.m. the time I usually go to bed and it was 235. I woke up at 5 and it was 65. I didn't take or eat anything, only sleep between those times. I don't understand it. I did go to the endo last week. My 3 month was 7.5 which isn't the greatest, but since my surgery I figured things wouldn't be back to normal. However, all my cholesteral, triglicerides, etc. was all in the moderate to desirable range. I was really surprised, as they were much higher the last time which was back in last summer. Missed the one in Oct. because of surgery. So I'm confused over what's going on. The only thing I can think of is the stress I'm having with my husband and wondering what I should do with my life. __________________________________________________
