Guest guest
- Welcome to the group! I had an RAI last month, and definitely had a weeks worth of upset stomach and odd tastes in my mouth. My RAI was 30 mCi and the upset stomach was pretty well taken care of with a few Tums. I was told that the RAI kills some fast-growing cells in your body such as stomach lining and hair follicles. My hair is also somewhat thinner, but I can't relate the beginning of my hair loss to a particular event in my thyca 'adventure' - it kind of snuck up on me. Hang in there, you'll be back to feeling normal very soon!!! Dave > Hi. I am new to the group and have enjoyed reading the list the past few > weeks. I had a pt in May and a tt in June. Yes, some folks do get nausea after RAI - but things do improve. I found that ginger tea or peppermint tea helped a lot with nausea. Ginger tea: Boil 3 cups water & 1 inch of peeled ginger root for about 10 minutes. Add juice of one lemon or one lime & sugar to taste. Drink hot or cold. Eating small meals - low fat & not too spicy also helped. If the nausea is really bad, you could ask your doctor about some over the counter remedies. Things really do improve from here... Hang in there! Take care. .
Guest guest
Yes, I had nausea, both while in hospital for RAI and once I got home. It should subside in about a week or so. Have you started back on your medication yet? If not, that could (?) prolong it a bit. Take care and good luck with your scan. Kim At 04:57 PM 15/09/01 -0400, you wrote: >Hi. I have had a sickening sweet after taste in my mouth since the RAI and the nausea gets worse as the day progresses. Has anyone else experienced this? My Dr mentioned that some people get radiation gastritis, that the lining of their stomachs are not happy about being radiated, causing the nausea. Any suggestions if this is what I am experiencing, how long does it last, any help except for ginger ale and saltines? Thanks!!! > > >
Guest guest
A big thank you to all who responded to my question. This list is great and a big source of support. I did end up calling my radiologist to ask this question also and he emphatically stated that the any nausea from RAI if it occurs, would only be for a day or two after RAI and not the 2 weeks I have experienced. This nausea must be from my still-hypo state. I had some nausea before RAI also....although with the brain fog, who can remember ??? I have been back on synthroid for 12 days so far - hypo symptoms still rampant. Does anyone have any recommendations on how long it takes to feel better enough to return to work??
