April O Magazine

Hi All,

Last week I was shopping at the commisarry on the military base and noticed

the April issue of the O Magazine. On the cover, in bold pink letters it

said, " THE BREAST CHOICE One woman's radical decision: What would you

do? " Well, since I am very aware of controversy about breasts right now

(thanks to you all!) I picked up the magazine and read it. The story, by Rene'

Syler, begins " Defending My Life "

It reads like a diary and goes through her history of breast disease and fear of

cancer. Not unlike my own history and decision, I read with interest and

compassion. It details her decision to undergo surgery for the removal of

breast tissue and the implantation of these " safe, lifelong " medical wonders

we all are much too intimately acquainted with.

I kept thinking she was going to discover the truth about these implants, but

she didn't. The story ended with her undergoing the surgery and

living " happily ever after. " I wonder when her world will fall apart? My heart

goes out to her as I know that the day will come when she, like all of us, will

become aware of the " rest of the story. " I wonder if the O Magizine, or any

other magazine, will be anxious to print her story then.

Who has been trying to contact Oprah about running a story on the aftermath of

implants? I know I saw a post a while back where someone mentioned that,

but it was before I read this article. Don't you think we should offer to share

our information with her and see if she will be brave enough to approach the

subject? On the heels of this article maybe we could get at least some

women to listen and save them from making a decision that will change their

lives.

Remember years ago the commercial on TV for a popular margarine? It

said, " It's not nice to fool Mother Nature! " How true it is! I pray for all of

us

every day that we will find a way to regain our precious health and warn other

unsuspecting women of the dangers lurking behind the facade of breast

implants.
