We got back late Sun night after a l-o-n-g drive. Why does it always seem so

much longer going home than it did heading there??

After being officially, legally over-tired, I was surprised to make it all the

way home with just a short cat nap. My kids had a great time as did our sitter,

. My son's favorite part of the trip was Six Flags and hanging out with

Weir. Aubrie loved meeting everyone -- especially Barney -- thanks to

whomever made that happen! really enjoyed meeting all the kids. So many

of them came right up to her and talked, gave a hug, ate her snowcone -- she

handled it all so well and truly enjoyed it. She will be an awesome PT someday

based on my observations of her this weekend.

I recommend that families bring a non-family sitter if possible. Usually my mom

joins us, but she couldn't make it this time. Having allowed all of us to

get our maximum benefit from the weekend. Don't get me wrong, the child care

portion of the conference is fantastic and essential. However, it is liberating

to be able to get up, go to breakfast, and focus my entire day on getting every

ounce of information and socialization as I can out of the event without

worrying about the kids. They could sleep in, get meals on their own or meet me

for lunch, hang out with their friends, etc. We were all free to do what we

needed to do without interfering with each other's agenda. Does that make

sense? It was even better with a sitter than with Grandma because Grandma comes

with an agenda too. I hope Grandma can come again to all of the future

conferences, but I might consider a sitter as well so Grandma can attend some

sessions, visit with the adults after bedtime, spend quality time with ,

or whatever.

I am still savoring the emotional high of meeting everyone. I am delaying the

start of my real life. As soon as I pick up the phone and begin conversations

with friends and family, the wonderful feelings of being with my CHARGE family

will have to fade to the background. This is my third conference. It is

interesting to see how each conference affects me in a different way. I take

home something new each time based on our current place along this journey.

Each year, I am seeking new information, I have new revelations, and I add new

family members.

Meeting and hearing Kay and Pat speak was the highlight of the weekend for

me. When Lynn posted about earlier this year, I began to allow myself to

really believe in my dreams of Aubrie's future. Meeting Pat and Kay,

cemented that even further. I was fortunate enough to sit next to Pat during

Sun morning's session. I could imagine myself 12 years from now sitting next to

my daughter -- and it felt good. In fact, it felt wonderful! What a gift!

To all of you who understood and accepted my many tears, thanks.

I met so many new families with such beautiful babies! I can't even begin to

remember all of them right now, but I look forward to watching those babies

grow. I remember when Aubrie was a baby. I hope those new parents are able to

gain as much from the conference and from their CHARGE family as I have over the

years.

The professionals -- oh, my. How fortunate we are to have so many exceptional

people who care so much about our children and make themselves accessible to us.

The whole experience is indescribable. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going

to explain to family and friends. There's simply no way they can understand.

As we drove home, I kept looking in each gas station and rest area for a

familiar CHARGE face. There weren't any. It's really weird and disappointing

to be back into the regular world where we are unique again.

Well, as much as I hate to do it, I guess I'd better get dressed and get on with

my real life. Hugs to all!

Yes Michele,

It makes sense. Some of the best information happens at 2am as people are

just chatting and if you need to stay in your room with the kids you can

miss a lot or at least feel like it.

I think this was truly an excellent conference. Seems like there was

information available for fist timers, yet new information for those who

have attended many other conferences.

I appreciate the work of everyone who put this together, the O'Tooles as

well as Neal Stanger's team on selecting topics, the Board, the volunteers,

and the presenters.

If you were not able to attend, I highly recommend you invest in some if not

all of the audio tapes or CDs. They are invaluable for you as well as the

team of professionals working with your child. Topics on medical issues,

communication, and behavior are all very useful.

Michele,

I couldn't have said it better myself and I know you are much

much tireder than I am. You put into words what I was thinking.

Thanks for sharing your heart and much of my heart too. Since it was

my first conference I had no idea what to expect. It was awsome!

Entering the " real world " again was a little strange. I was up early

this morning, teaching Vacation Bible School. Kids every where! :-)

You too Lynn,

Glad to be home although I wish I had a day to play with my kids, but no I

am back at work. Tyler and Kayla both have registration this week, so will

already be missing more work.

Dylan is in a good phase, I can see it in his eyes.

Michele,

It was great to connect with you again at this conference. We even

managed to squeeze in an all-too-brief chat.

But the really wonderful thing was seeing how Aubrie is flourishing.

Quite a lot of personality in that small package :-)

Hi Kim and all,

Ditto here - the O'Tooles, their family and friends (and hundreds of

volunteers), the Board and the conference team were spectacular.

Otherwise the conference package would be worthwhile... I found the

handouts to be very clear and representative of the sessions I attended.

Best regards,

Anne, mom of Penina (CHARGE, almost 7)

Ditto for Penina and the other kids. I was telling someone today that the C in

CHARGE could stand for " character " .

Michele

Quite a lot of personality in that small package :-)
