Ok everyone I'm going to be in the Lifestyles section of Tuesday's Telegraph

paper (thats a Nashua based paper I believe).

The topic is motivation .. and my focus on getting into the gym. I won't be

the only thing in the article I'm sure .. she mentioned interviewing other

people but it will be interesting to see. Hopefully they will include my

before/after pictures.

Now although the article in on motivation ie working out, etc .. I did tell

her that I had gastric bypass in June of 1999 and have lost 88 lbs to date

so that hopefully the word will get out about our surgery and encourage

someone who might be thinking about it. I also told her that I have this

list for anyone wanting to join ..she didn't take down that information but

perhaps it might generate interest. She said if anyone emails or calls her

about it she'll give out the info to contact me which I said was fine.

So hopefully this will be a good turnout!

Pam...is it ground up like burger, or are they patties? Those are good

#'s...you get less protein with regular red meat...is the texture like

hamburger too?

Dawn

Re: Hello

Jo,

No it was not tofu, I found it right beside the tofu. It said soy

taco filling. It was packaged like sausage would be. It taste just like

hamburger to me. and I bet if I didn't tell my husband what it was he

would not of known. That's how good it was. They had that kind and also

regular soy filling, which I figure tastes like plain burger. That's a

guess though but I plan on buying it to find out. I have not been able

to eat any kind of red meat since surgery so with this stuff I could make

all kinds of things, and for 3 ozs. it's 1 fat gr. 16 protein grs. 12

carbs. and 130 cals. at least that is for the pre-made soy burger. I

have these but have not yet had them. maybe tomorrow night. Those are

good numbers, Don't you think??????? Pam

Well yesterday she received an award for knowing site vocabulary...so she is

doing much better! Hayley was so behind for so long due to focusing issues

(but not really ADD stuff) that finally we are getting her on the right

track. We are having problems coutning by five and money. Hayley is going to

be 8 in August. In fact, if you are interested, there are two camps this

summer. One is Lion's Camp for the Deaf; it's right outside Ontario. It's

mostly people who sign but there are some who voice and the counselors are

CODAs. And then there is another which holds a close place to my heart -

its sponsored by Lutheran Deaf Camp and is held closer to LA above Valencia.

We're not Lutheran but this camp really helped Hayley realize there were

older people who signed; she came out of herself then.

I am really glad you are taking a sign class; that will always come in

handy. It really helps with your hearing kids too, you don't need to be

yelling down the aisle at the store.

San Diego is my favorite city. I stay at the US Grant when I go there for

work or on Coronado. (If I were paying myself, it wouldnt be such nice

properties!)MY sister is in the San area.

Welcome to the list!

,

I've heard of the Lion's camp but have not gone. I went to HEI's Family Camp a

few years ago and found it helpful. So much so I decided to organize a Family

Camp in San Diego which will be in n over Memorial Day weekend. I've been

organizing this in my " spare " time.

The U.S. Grant is across the street from where I work. Please feel free to send

me an e-mail the next time you're in town and maybe we can meet for lunch.

Crosby has a hearing twin brother, Riley. Signing definetly comes in handy . .

.. especially when you don't want to announce to the world that you're going to

the bathroom!

Ok...here is my opinion on this subject. It is very important for you to eat

your protien after your surgery, drink your fluids etc...WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE

ARE SUPPOSE TO DO. When I dont make good choices...I dont lose. When I eat my

protien and drink my (approved) fluids....I lose.

Theresa, your body seems to be storing.....it doesnt know when you are gonna

give it nourishment again...so its hording every nutrient every drop of

everything it can get out of what you are giving it. So thats why you are at

a stand still in weight loss. If you are having problems figuring out what

foods to eat that wont make you sick...try soups and boullions and even chili

with beans...(lots of protien in that!) Of course eat slow....and pause

often. HOpe you get some release soon! Also, I have herd of people losing

weight slowly the first month due to the fact that you had been pumped with a

lot of fluid in the hospital...it takes the body awhile to rid that excess.

Hope things get moving for ya....do you have a nutritionist??

Welcome to our little group Sherry! I am also the mother of 3, ages 8,7, and 4. My 4 year old son, , was diagnosed with Juvenile Dermotomyositis (JDMS) at the age of 2 years, 11 months. He started out on very high doses of steroids taken orally and delievered by I.V. He has tapered down to 5 mg/every other day. He did gain weight around his middle and got a moon face but they are long gone now. He recently had a bone density test and after 20 months of steroid use there was no damage. As Teddi already said, everyone reacts differently but before he began to take the prendisone he was unable to even bear weight on his legs or even hold his head up. I am thankful everyday for the steroid. He would not be able to function without it. Hugs, Cari and - JDMS Hello My name is Sherry, and I am a 37 year old school teacher. I am married, 17 years, and I have 3 children-16, 14, and 12. I was just recently diagonosed with Myositis, still waiting to find out which kind. I had a muscle biopsy done 2 weeks ago. When my neurologist receives the results from that, he will begin treatment. At present, I am taking Celebrex, Darvocet, and Flexeril. I am a little apprehensive about starting steroid therapy. I would like to hear from some of you about what to expect. I have been on Christmas break for 2 weeks, and I am dreading the return to school. It takes so much out of me! I am considering resigning so I can give what little energy I have to my home and family. I hope each of you have a better year this year than last. Hi Vicki,

You are funny. Your letter made me laugh. I made

through the movie and I still have that *#%? stone. I

know I am a nurse but my ego isn't very big . What is

JO-1? Do you ever feel that life is the most beautiful

thing? Sometimes I'm struck to the core by it's beauty

and I think I must be crazy because my body is killing

me and I still think life is great. Does mental

illness come with this thing? Ha. Ha. I enjoyed your

letter. Talk to you later. Jules

Hi .... Mental Illness???? With this disease???? OF COURSE !!!!!

LOL... I feel that I'm off my rocker all the time. I laugh when I

should be crying... I get depressed when there is nothing wrong.... I

throw my little fits when I stub my toes or fall over something that was

so small...

The other day I started laughing when I couldn't zip up my pants..yet I

got down to the end of my driveway and started to cry because the band

was to tight .... I laugh or maybe cry when I take out my undies from my

dresser draw and realize they are one step away from being the size of a

table cloth......Nope, no mental illness here....LOL

If you have PM your chances of having the JO-1 antibody are greater than

other myositis. Here's a URL to read:

http://www.immunovision.com/pg0018.htm

It is best to ask your doctor what antibodies you have since you could

have the JO-1 and not have any symptoms.

I don't know if I gave you this before but here's my web site for more

info.

http://www.angelfire.com/in2/mandy2/Med2.html

Since I've had this disease I look at the world so differently. I

really feel that everything is so beautiful that it takes my breath

away. I know I got this disease so I could stop and smell the roses

along the way. The good Lord works in very strange ways.

Even though I have this disease, I would much rather have this than

someone else who could not put up with the pain and the weakness. (is

that not a mental case or what)

Hi Vicki and all.

I'm not snowed in yet, although it is getting close to that up here.

The snowbanks are now between three and four feet high, and that's a

lot for the Toronto area.

I've dropped to 10mg/day prednisone from 12.5mg/day, and so I'm just

taking it easy for a few days. I also had a bout with the 24-hour bug

a few days ago, but things are back to normal.

It seems as though things are slowly getting back to normal for most

people on the board. That was great news about getting back

to work, and I'm looking forward with great interest to Ev's next

update. These things are far more interesting than anything I've got

going.

I hope all the kids are flu-free too.

Take care and keep warm.

Hi Vicki.

You guessed right -- I've not been to the gym for about four days.

When the prednisone dose was cut, I got a little bit of pain in my

knees, not really a lot, but enough to make me think that I would be

better off to wait until it left before doing any running. As well,

we're pretty busy closing the books off from last year at work, so

there's been a few long days the past week. The knees are getting

better, so I think that I'll be back on the treadmill on Tuesday.

I agree with you about sleeping on an iceflow. It seems to me that

humans did some pretty good work when they invented bedrooms,

furnaces, and beds.

The sun is not shining here (in fact, the forecast is for flurries),

but there has also been no rain.

I hope your day is going a bit drier than the last few.

> Ralph, Cari and Tori....hope the kids are doing great and no flu.

Just before the new year, did take ill with a pretty nasty

stomach flu. She was up all one night vomiting every couple of hours,

then had diarrhea the next day several times. We took her to her local

pedi and he said maybe food poisioning, but most likely a stomach virus

that's been going around. By the end of that day, was feeling a

little better and had stopped vomiting and having diarrhea. By the end

of the next day, she was back to normal. It never ceases to amaze me

how fast she bounces back from stuff - when she's not on a high dose of

Prednisone, that is.

Thanks for asking,

Ralph

Dear Everyone,

Sorry I have no consistently been " on-list " lately--I haven't been

feeling terrific...

DENEEN: Your ability to laugh in the face of hurt and adversity is

inspiring. Your Ex is an idiot--he's giving YOU up?

VICKI: You get an Academy Award for pipes!

Yours truly threw up at school on Friday and left. I'm not sure if it is the

stomach virus going around or the antibiotic I'm taking for my sinus

infection. Methinks it is the virus since all I've done is sleep since

Friday and I have no appetite (We all know THAT is a sign!!!)

Plus, the good sister in charge of our overall maintenance decided that due

to our astronomical heating bills the past two months (and whose haven't

been high?) decided to turn down the heat. I'm struggling between " turn

down " and " turn off " because of the three wings, NOTHING is coming from the

radiators in the south and north wings (only the center wing)--I, of course,

live in the south. I bitched appropriately and inappropriately (Believe it

or not, nuns can and do bitch)--now I am the proud owner of a space heater.

My room is comfortable and I am changing Psalm 23 to read " He makes me to

lie down near the space heater..there He warms my joints. (I have DOUBLED my

Darvocet with this heat thing!) Anyway, I am thoroughly " vented.. "

Take care and be well...

Love,

Ann-Marie
