Anita,

No, Tricare is a military insurance program that uses different

contractors to supply the services (Humana etc). It has categories,

Standard, Extra, and Prime. All military eligible people to include

retired military can use it. My category has no deductible, my co

pays for visits are twelve dollars and medicines are three dollars for

generics, nine for brand names and 21 dollars for speciality ones.

The contractors have to re bid for the contract every five years to

renew their contract.

Depending on the plan you chose, the premiums are charged. We are

retired military and have had it when we were active duty. My husband

is the holder of the policy and then we are the dependents. If he

dies, I used to be active duty and Reservist, I can have the program

with myself as primary.

People who have this can use civilian doctors, the military

facilitates, or co share with the VA.

When you turn 65, you get Tricare for life which means that medicare

is the primary and Tricare secondary.

The information can be found on the Tricare website, and I could not

have afforded the care I got. They have a directory of providers and

I have been

able to find the specialist I need and if you can't, they will waiver

a provider and pay them if your primary doctor signs off on it. Hope

the info helps-Bennie

I'm not military. And not of retirement age, will be 50 this year.

My secondary insurance is bc/bs (460 month) and they wont sell me sup

insurance because of my age. The lady told me that they had to sell

it to me because I have Medicare, but when she found out my age, she

said no and hung up on me as quickly as she could. I looked at

Humana's website the other day, I think I signed up for a booklet to

be mailed to me. I really should write this stuff down.

I could sign up for my husband's insurance but we would be paying

(225/month) for it, for a year before I could use it because of pre-

existing condition. I don't hold much faith in the stability of

their future, so that is out. I'll have to check with ACA to see

what they may know about.
