Your endocrin system which includes all your glands and their juices that it takes to process ( metabolism) nutrician and make things work in your body . Thyroid, pancreas ( diabetes), and entire metabolic system.

The Endocrine System this is a good site for you to cruise around in and learn alot. I learn something from this site every time I look at it.

I just read that glutamic acid ( used for synthesis by hormones) , is an amino acid is converted to histamine . It is histamine that goes nuts when you are having allergies or foreign body reaction, that is why people take anti-histamine for allergies.

I hope you are feeling good today. Blessings ~ DedeSee what's free at AOL.com.

So true, and doctors no longer touch you, they only do expensive testing, Besides with a phone consult, they cant look at you and judge you. They are going by symptoms and labs combined.............See what's free at AOL.com.

Dianne ~

Do you have a blood pressure monitor? please take it when that happens, so you can see what is going on from that point of view. I am maintaining. I am sorry you are still feeling so punky. I am glad you are going to check into seeing a endo. I hope you all have a good one there. There are so many things that can cause what is happening to you, but they are all connected one way or another. Thyroid, adrenals, bio-toxins, neurological, the list goes on. I am glad you are going to check on things to be sure you are ok. Please keep us posted. We are all here for you !

When you were sitting, your pulse could have been very very low, and when you stood up it speeded up to normal. That rush of blood pressure and pulse could be what causes the little blackout. Please start taking your BP and Pulse when you get up and several times a day, then add to it, what it is doing when you have a blackout rush. Write down how you are feeling as well, and include all your symptoms and take your temperature too so you can see what it is doing. That will be helpful in knowing what your body is doing. God Bless YOU and i hope you feel better ! ~

An endocrinologist studies and treats the endocrine system. This would involve all of the glands....the thyroid, adrenals, pituitary, thymus, pancreas, reproductive glands, and the others that I missed. They treat alot of diabetics and hypothyroid patients, the two biggies. They write prescriptions for hormone replacements or do surgeries to remove glands that are damaged (such as the thyroid). They order tests for monitoring gland function. Most of them treat people by numbers, not symptoms, and so those with symptoms of illness but normal lab numbers usually get brushed off. I think alot of endocrinologists do a disservice to their patients! Finding a good one is very hard! Dianne,

They are suppose to be doctors of " endocrine " and " endocrine

disorders " ...such as thryoid, adrenal ...etc.

Some don't get much satisfaction from endocrinologists. One

recommendation is to find a good " alternative medicine " doctor who

practices holistically (whole body) or even a good doctor with DO

behind their name.

I went to an endocrinologist two weeks ago...for the first

time...and after the appointment I decided I was better off with my

alternative medicine doctor.

There is a doctor some are using off the STTM site whose name is Dr.

Gedde. I believe she is in California and treats by phone based on

test results and phone consults.

The way the world is today... a good doctor who understands our

issues and who may reside in another state can treat based on lab

results over the phone just as easily as one we take the time and

effort to go see, who may not have a real clue. Some of us may

need to consider this based on where we live and having limited

access to good docs.

Dianne ~

I am glad you are getting a monitor. Every home should have one, especially since there is so much heart disease, and there are so many diseases that has heart dysfunction as a symptom.

I will be anxious to see what your numbers are. Please start a journal and write everything down. Date, wt, pulse, temperature and bloodpressure, and what all symptoms you are having. Do this when you wake up, and then at lunch and dinner and before bed. Do it in the middle when you have strange spells. I am gonna start writing down what i eat and drink so I can track patterns as well.

Those blackouts when you stand up are a sign of weak adrenals: http://www.drkaslow.com/html/adrenal_insufficiency.html The following physical findings suggest low adrenal function. Skin thin and dry or scaly, pigmentation of temples, red palms or fingertips, and cold clammy palms. Deep Tendon Reflexes

are exaggerated. Lymph Gland inflammation of the neck (swelling, pain, or tenderness). Blood Pressure is usually low, and drops upon standing (105/60) and then elevated to (120 or 130/70 or 80) on reclining (postural or orthostatic hypotension). This change from low to higher when lying down may be the reason

why many patients find it difficult to fall asleep. It is conducive to falling asleep to lie in a semi-reclining position for 15 or 20 minutes. Another way to describe postural hypotension is that there may be a sudden drop in blood pressure to below normal upon suddenly arising from bed, or from standing still, causing temporary darkening of vision, dizziness, light-headedness, faintness, or fainting. Body Conformation is of the thin muscle-type (this is called asthenic habitus). The typical person is also tall with an angular appearance but a shorter person may have what we call "signs of tallness" - a moderately long neck, an index finger longer than the

4th (ring) finger, and a 2nd toe longer than the big toe. There are long arms and legs, and the arm span is greater than the height. Hair is sparse on the body but there is usually a full head of fine and abundant hair. The typical person is blond and blue eyed, or red headed. A tall, thin blonde with skin allergies can be diagnosed immediately. Dentition shows crowded lower teeth with a high palatal arch (roof of mouth).

Pain and tenderness over adrenal area of mid-back when pressure is applied (called Rogoff's sign). Urination is either very frequent in small amounts or infrequent in large amounts. This person usually does not do well in the heat or in the summer, particularly in conditions of high temperature, high humidity, and low barometric pressure. Scanty perspiration (except under arms or hands and feet). This person may be a "salt loser" (the tendency is to lose salt and to retain potassium). The urine and perspiration of the salt loser is saltier than normal and there is consequently a greater salt concentration on the skin. Animals are attracted to the salt on the skin, and often the low adrenal patient will be a favorite of animals to lick. Ankle and/or Finger Swelling. Tintera, M.D. was an early pioneer in recognizing and treating adrenal

insufficiency. He wrote that salt is a diuretic and that hypoadrenocortics (patients with low adrenal cortex function) retain fluid because the body is trying to hold onto the salt. When enough salt is consumed, the body takes what it needs and excretes the rest. If the ankle edema is due to insufficient salt, the edema will usually disappear in three days after taking adequate salt. If it does not disappear in five to six days, potassium may also be needed. Vitamin B6 is also helpful for edema not only because it has a diuretic effect but also supports the adrenal cortex. I remember reading somewhere that fasting is hard on the adrenals. I know that when I was fasting under a naturopath's supervision I had that blackout feeling when I stood up from laying down....I nearly fainted--my head was buzzing and I saw fuzzy black and white snow and I knew that meant to get my head beneath my heart level as fast as I could. I've fainted in the past, so I know when it is coming. It all makes so much sense now... Don't be scared Jas, this can be sorted and put right. I am

sending you a list of doctors recommended by my members. if there is one you

fancy, please do telephone him/her first before making an appointment and speak

to them to see if they are experienced in your particular field. it's good that

Dr Peatfield found this today. Most cysts are entirely harmless - honestly!

Also, don't worry about stopping your levothyroxine. Thyroxine has a very long

half life and takes up to 6 weeks to leave the body, so stopping it for a week,

you should not feel any bad effect at all. In fact, would you believe, that

some people take their weekly dose of levothyroxine once a week - and all at

one go. What might worry anybody is if they had to stop their T3 for a week, as

T3 has a very short half life of only two days in humans, and we recommend

members split their dose to take it twice a day to keep their 'engine' topped

up. It peaks in the blood a couple of hours after taking it, and then it

gradually starts to leave your system, so if you take a dose in the morning

when you wake, you need to take another dose around 2.00p.m.

This is why when patients are prescribed levothyroxine, the

doctor tells them to come back in 6 to 8 weeks to have another blood test done,

because it takes that time for it to be fully absorbed.

You are quite likely not to even realise you are not taking it,

because you will have plenty still in your system doing what it should be

doing.

I was so sorry to have missed you today, but with our TPA

conference tomorrow, I have been shooting off here, there and everywhere and

not knowing where I am from one minute to the next.

Luv - Sheila

Hi Sheila,

I have been to see Dr Peatfield today and he has found a cyst on my thyroid,

which has panicked me a bit. You've said that there are a few endo's which

understand what were going through so please could you recommend one in or

around my area of Scunthorpe, so i can get my gp to refer me please.

Dr Peatfield has concluded that i have low adrenal levels so therefore i should

change my meds to Nutri Adrenal Extra and Nutri Thyroid, but apparently i have

to stop taking my levothyroxine for 7-10 days before i start the new meds,

which for me is pretty scary! I also have a Gluten intolerance, and think this

is due to hashimoto! Which again Dr Peatfield has confirmed, i've been hypo for

nearly 10 years and feel as though i've left it too late for it to get any

better, and now this cyst has appeared i'm feeling very scared.

I hope you can help me.

Thank you so much for your reply, i was hoping to meet you yesterday and

congratulate you on the amazing work you put in to helping people like me.

I didn't think i was going to get a reply this quick and when i checked my

account this morning, i shed a few tears. I really wish you all the happiness in

the world sheila and hope that god is looking down and acknowledging the work

you are doing.....wining the lottery might be a nice little reward....:}

I brought my husband with me yesterday and he didn't say a word, and i think

even Dr Peatfield was looking at him thinking " great big Ogre looks miserable "

and really i was hoping he would meet you and you'd kick him into shape!

You have given me the confidence to changing my meds, so im not that

apprehensive about it, but i keep thinking to my self, when i change my

meds....how will i ever know that i'm feeling normal.....its been ten years!

What is normal at my age of 35?

Ive already spoken to my doctor, and he is aware that i came to see Dr

Peatfield, but i don't know whether to tell him im changing my meds? My Doctor

is actually very good, which i'm surprised about my self beacuse i didn't think

he'd listen, but i don't know how he'll react about this? My husband has said i

need to tell him, but i'm not quite sure? He has agreed to let me see the Endo

of my choice, so i suppose he might be ok.

Anyway i hope everything goes well at todays TPA Conference and wish i could

have been there, i look forward to receiving the endo list.

Speak to you soon,

love Jas.
