Your doctor should respect your decision to not take Lupron.

My doctor told me up front what the side effects were. I am very reluctant

to put anything into my body, so he said up front it is my decision and I

don't have to take Lupron.

That's true, however, the scar for me will be much bigger w/o Lupron thus

making the recovery time longer. I have weighed the pro's and con's on

Lupron and I am going to try it, since I'd like to recover as quickly as I

can. I run my own business, so I will need to get back to work ASAP. If

after the first month I'm not liking what Lupron is doing to me and/or I

can't tolerate the symptoms I will discontinue it. And I will keep everyone

posted on my experiences with it, since it is widely used.

,

I'm sorry to hear that you were turned down for UAE by BC.

I'm glad to hear that your gyn. isn't pushing Lupron, from what I've

read Lupron sounds like bad news and if I end up having myo I will

insist on avoiding Lupron as well. Any really good gyn/ob should be

able to do it without the Lupron.

My doctor told me that he uses lupron when he can because it reduces

adhesions by 50%. i am very concerned about adhesions in or around my uterus

since i want to conceive and carry to term. does anyone else have any info

on adhesion rate w/ lupron vs. without or any experience w/ adhesions w/

lupron? it also minimizes blood loss he says. what does everyone think about

that?

My doctor told me the same thing and since I am in your boat with wanting to

concieve, I used the Lupron. It shrank my firoid from 3.7 to 2.3 cm in just

over a month. I was still on it when I had the resection and she said it

made the surgery easier and recovery would be better (it was an easy

recovery). Unfortunately, my fibroid grew back to 2.9 within 3 or 4 weeks.

I had another resection withouth Lupron and it grew back to 3.1 within 4

weeks. So, the Lupron didn't affect the growth that much in my case and it

did make the recovery nicer for me.

I went on Lupron for 3 months. I had no negative side effects, but also no

shrinkage.

I had a heavy bleed about 2 weeks after the shot and then nothing for the

rest of the 3 months. So, while I experienced no pre-operative shrinkage,

the reprieve from bleeding was nice for me.

<< the 2nd opinion myo doc recommends 2 months of lupron prior to surgery. i

am just wondering what it is everyone knows about the lupron that i don't. i

know what the side effects are, but if it helps to shrink them prior to

surgery and reduces blood loss, is there more i don't know? >>

My understanding is that Lupron throws you into instant menopause, with all

that goes with it -- hot flashes, facial hair, no periods, etc. It does

sound like the only way to go, though, if myomectomy is your choice. My

OBGYN told me I'd be on 3 months of Lupron prior to myomectomy -- which made

UAE look pretty good!! I'm mistrustful of drugs, but it seems like the body

recovers from that short time period -- at least, that's what those who do it

say.

When I was doing my research, I ran across this site:

http://www.lupronvictims.com/

Not very inspirational to read about all the side effects listed here.

The fact is, though, they don't really know long term effects of UAE either,

so it's not like that choice is definitely better. They have had women get

pregnant after UAE too ('scuse me if I'm saying stuff you all know, but I'm

new and I don't know what all has been discussed, of course!). The UCLA site

addresses that www.fibroids.org.

Hard choices. Good luck!!

Thanks so much for the info on the Lupron. I didn't think about the fact

that the fibroids can shrink so small until they are missed. I will bring

that up to my doctor next month when I get my second shot. So far, the shot

wasn't bad. I have had a couple of episodes of hot flashes. But thank

goodness my insurance covered them, if not it would have been $400 for each

shot, instead I got three for $20.00. I guess that was a good deal!
