I'm at 10 years post myomectomy and have regrown two fibroids. I'm

having minor symptoms from them so for now we're just waiting and

watching and hoping I make it to menopause before I have to do

anything about them. Unfortunately, I don't know when menopause hits

the women in my family as my mom had a hysterectomy in her 40s due to

cervical cancer (and her mom died at a fairly young age).

Hi Tish,

Was it you who said that the " pouch " really diminished over time?

For those of us now looking like kangaroos could you clarify? Thanks

Jan,

How old are you now? When did re-growth start? At what age?

Best,

Bonnie

I had a myo at at 38. I just turned 42. Regrowth began when I was 40.

My doctor gave me the same explanation, that perimenopause causes

fluctuations in estrogen production and can cause regrowth.

I just turned 46 a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure when regrowth

actually started. I just had the ultrasound and endomitrial biopsy in

May. I had noticed some between period spotting a few months prior to

May that led us to start trying to figure out what was going on.

First we tried changing b/c pills. My gyn said that sometimes that

helps spotting. When that didn't work I went in for an appointment.

I told my gyn on that visit I was afraid that I had grown new

fibroids. A few weeks later during an ultrasound it was confirmed

that I'd grown two new fibroids. I believe the ultrasound person said

they were around 5-6cm each but I'm really not remembering the details

completely.

Do you mean following surgery? Yes, in my case, my stomach kind of

pooched out and sagged a little over my scar after surgery. Now, I

seem to have a pretty flat stomach and things have smoothed out. For

someone who never really had a flat stomach most of her life, I am

enjoying this new change. It makes me feel younger. It took over a

year, to get to this point, though.

I think the biggest was grapefruit sized. The other thing is I had three

injections of Lupron (one a month before surgery). My OB-GYN said she

wouldn't have taken the Lupron route, but since I started on it, I had to

continue I guess. (Kaiser -- different doctors, different ideas.)

Anyway, I went for one of those free bone density checks at a fair last

month, and the reading was -1.7 (desired is 0 or above). I'm scheduled to see

my regular (Kaiser again) doctor at his soonest available opening on October

3rd... (I didn't realize Lupron's effects would last so long!!! and/or that

they had that effect on me!)

I am sorry,I am a bit lost in your story, and I think that recurrance after myo

is a subject that not

only interests me(after 2 myos) but other members.

Could you please clarify? Were you given the Lupron prior to your myomectomy 2

years ago?

If so,has anyone suggested that Lupron has played a role in the re-growth?

By that I mean that Lupron can shrink smaller fibroids to a size were they

become too difficult to

see duirng surgery, are therefore left behind and so can continue to grow.

Do you think that this might have happened to you?

Thanks

Hi, Sorry about that. I'll include what I'm responding to in this and future

correspondence so as not to make for even more confusion.

I had a series of three monthly Lupron shots prior to my myomectomy in

February 1999. My OB-GYN didn't say whether she thought the fibroids came

back because the shots may have shrunk some of them so much that she couldn't

see them during the operation. I have an appointment with her this week and

will ask her about that.

During the February '99 myomectomy she took out 20 fibroids though and I

believe she thought she got them all. And visits to her just after the

operation showed no immediate signs of regrowth. I think it was maybe 9

months to a year after that they started back up. I'll definitely ask her if

she thinks they're new ones or old ones that were already there.
