Sydney,

Thank you Sydney SO MUCH for the response to my email. I had read that after

stopping the lupron, fibroids would grow back faster, but I hadn't really

related that to my case. My recent fibroids could be a result of the the

shrinkage during the lupron stage and the growth afterwards. That was a very

good suggestion, one that gives me some hope which I was slowly losing. I

will be mentioning that to my doctor when I talk to her.

My fibroids were and are submucosal. The myomectomies that I had were done

vaginally (hysteroscopically) and the recovery time was very short (they were

done as outpatient, although they put me in the hospital after the first one

because I had lost so much blood). My doctor did talk about the

hysteroscopic resection, and since these latest ones are so much smaller,

this may be what she will suggest this time. I am waiting for her call as we

speak.

As for the baby, as long as I can have one, I don't care how it comes

out...c-section would be just fine with me!!!! Going through all of this you

tend to be much less picky about the choices. Just as long as we do have the

ability to have a baby, that's my main concern.

Once again, I thank you for your thoughts and experiences. I was having a

very down day, thinking my choices were getting less and less. Thanks for

giving me the hope. Take Care.

I have a couple of thoughts in reading your post. You didn't say the

location of your past of current fibriods, but they sound from the bleeding

episodes as if they are submucosal (in the uterine cavity, as opposed to

outside the uterus or in the wall). (If your new 2cm fibroid is causing

excessive bleeding, it is also likely it is submucosal). The reason I

focus on this is that if it is truly submucosal, I would recommend you find

a doctor experienced in hysteroscopic resection. This requires no incision

(they go in vaginally through a hysteroscope and shave away the fibroid

piece by piece). At 2 cm, you wouldn't need to do Lupron 1st.

One other note about Lupron is that it is possible when doing a myomectomy

after taking Lupron, tiny fibroids shrink to be so small they are missed

during myomectomy. Also, existing fibroids tend to grow back faster after

Lupron is stopped. It may well be that the " new " fibroids you have are

really left over fibroids that were missed in your first myomectomies due

to the shrinkage from Lupron.

The reason I suggest this is I know you don't want to keep going in for

myomectomies every 3 years--if these really aren't new fibroids but rather

ones you already had, perhaps getting these babies out might be the end of

your problems. Maybe you aren't really growing new ones but the old ones

are growing bigger. Just a thought.

Anyway, if your fibroids are submucosal, you will find this procedure much

easier to face (it's done on an outpatient basis and the recovery is very

fast--much faster than myomectomy).

As for the baby concern, my doctor said after removal of the fibroid, I

would be no less likely than anyone to concieve but that any delivery would

have to be C-section (this was not a concern for me so I didn't really

delve into this topic further).

I wish you luck and hope you have lots of time to decide what to do before

these start to cause the kind of bleeding you had experienced in the past.

I know how you feel about your choices; I feel a bit the same way. I also

had 2 hysteroscopic resections (the first, like you, unable to get both

fibroids, because I also had a complication--overload of the saline). I

went back 3 years later to get the 2nd one out and had another complication

(different doctor), my uterus was perforated and I suffered damage to my

small intestine. I was in the hospital for a week after abdominal surgery

to repair the intestine. I'm doing great now but am worried the remainder

of that fibroid is still lurking and may cause problems in the

future. While I'm still a big proponent of this procedure (I feel I was

just unlucky), I probably won't do it yet again--I may try UAE next--my

husband would commit me to the institution if I did this one again--he was

so worried.

Good luck and I'm happy to be able to have helped!

Scared

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this group. I wanted to briefly tell my story and see if

anyone has any advice. Two years ago (I was 25 at that time) it was

found that I had a 6.5cm fibroid and possibly a couple more

fibroids. My symptoms were very heavy bleeding that had gradually

gotten worse for about 2 years. I had lost so much blood that I had

to have a blood transfusion. My gyn decided to put me on 3 months of

lupron to shrink the fibroid enough to make surgery easier and the

possiblilty of a hysterectomy less likely. After one month of lupron

(and some major emotional changes) my body was preparing to deliver

my fibroid, I actually went into labor and my cervix dialated. At

this time my gyn. decided we couldn't wait any longer and I had a

myomectomy. They removed the fibroid, but I had severe blood loss

and she had to stop before she knew if everything was removed. I did

well after the surgery. But three months later my symptoms came back

and my ultrasound showed another large (I don't remember the size)

fibroid. I ended up having another Myomectomy to remove it. The

reason I chose to have the myomectomys was that I could not get the

bleeding under control. Birth control didn't even work. After the

second myomectomy I felt great. I was symptom free for almost 2

years. Within the last month and a half, my symptoms have returned

and I am very scared. During those two years I moved to another

state. I haven't been able to find a doctor I trust, I miss my old

doctor. I've also had a very difficult time getting insurance after

my surgeries and now have a very high deductible. So I have not been

able to go to different doctors to find one that I like. Last week I

went in for an ultrasound (with a vaginal probe) and they found 3

fibroids, the biggest one being 2cm. That is not real large, but my

worse nightmare is hitting me. I now know how fast these things can

grow. I'm scared because I will be getting married next year and we

plan on waiting a few more years before having children and I'm

afraid that by then my chance will be slim to none. I have contacted

the doctor that performed my last myomectomies and am waiting to hear

back from her. I have no idea what to do next. I can't keep having

myomectomy's...I just don't know what to do. I'm 27 now, and want to

have children. If there is anyone out there that has a simular story

and has any advise or has had to make a similar decision, please let

me know. Things are kind of up in the air right now. Thanks for

listening.

,

There's a group of excellent laparoscopic surgeons in NY. Go to

www.adlap.com for more information.

This is just one option. But I understand one of the best " adhesions "

surgeons is in this group. I only know this through another Dr. in TX.

Joan;

Dr. 212 213-8889- she is great specializes in natural remedies and

acupuncture, then medicine, then surgery, but she'll get rid of them and the
