Guest guest
Ann, I don't see any need for you to eliminate dairy. You said you have been following the diet for 2 1/2 weeks. What is he eating now? Jody mom to -5.1 and -7.5 SCD 1 year
Guest guest
I have a celiac son and an autistic son. I have asked this question myself in the past. Those with celiac usually only have a problem with diary when first diagnosed but can handle it after about 6 months GF. Since your son has been GF for 2 years (like mine was) and has not had a previous problem with diary, I would think the intro diet in the book would be fine. That is what I did for my celiac son and he did great. I also gave him bananas during the second day of the intro which Elaine said was OK. He has only twice in his life eaten gluten directly yet got gluten from me when I was nursing. Over 2 years on the GF diet never firmed up his stools. After about a week on the diet, diarrhea became a thing of the past. Even when he had an infraction (chips ahoy crumbs) after 1 month SCD, he did not get diarrhea. Shortly after starting the diet he told me his tummy felt good. I had no idea his stomach still hurt even though he was GF. He probably had pain all his life and didn't know what good felt like until he was SCD. Good luck. > > We've been on SCD for two and a half weeks now. Jody - he's eating everything that is allowed (fruit [raw, cooked, dried], honey, almonds, walnuts, pecans, cheese, yogurt, eggs, salmon, cod, tuna, turkey, lamb, butternut squash, peas, green beans, carrots, onion, almond/date milk), but no trophies yet, and his behaviour is not stable. He reacted to something he ate with a friend on Sunday - think we tracked it down to artifical color in some cheddar (poor guy - I told him cheese was ok!), but that's the only non-SCD item since we began. Sounds like we'll be ok with the book intro? Ann Sam 5 CD Simon 15 months SCD 2.5 wks
Guest guest
" Sounds like we'll be ok with the book intro? " Ann, Yes, the book intro seems fine. Just go slow after the intro and add foods one at a time to see what he tolerates and what he doesn't. Keeping a food log is a good idea. You aren't going to see trophies until his gut heals some. It takes some time. The chart on Pecanbread may still be useful in helping to figure out what veggies, etc to add. You can also make chicken pancakes (from pecanbread.com) for the intro if he doesn't like the other stuff. They are made from just cooked chicken and eggs. Go slow and be patient. (I know, easier said than done with a kid.) Jody mom to -5.1 and -7.5 SCD 1 year
