I sent faxes to my mom regularly but of course we didn't go anywhere near King's, nor did we bring her here to take any germs back there. In every fax I sent, I included my phone number, but she never called. I didn't worry about her because I knew that they'd call me if anything happened...at the same time I know that if she doesn't see or talk to me often she gets angry and starts telling people that we put her in a home and took her money, or some variation on the theme. So Sunday when we stopped by after church to pick her up, it had been a month since she'd been here. I was rather dreading the anticipated outburst, but instead she was really happy to see me, said she'd been worried (didn't remember all the faxes I'd been sending her all along), and was thrilled to come and spend the afternoon as she always does on Sundays. Before she went into King's, my mom was ironing almost obsessively. Everything she could find, she would iron, for the last couple of years. Every time I talked to her, she was ironing. Anyway, I had some 100% curtains I'd just washed that needed ironing, so I got her set up and she went to town. And LOVED it. She had a blast with that iron and those curtains. She also helped me make our Sunday dinner, and did the dishes afterward. She was doing probably better than I've seen her doing in a very long time, and we had a blast. Tomorrow I'm picking her up so she can get her hair done, then she's coming over for lunch afterward. And of course she'll come back on Sunday again. I've missed her so much, it's good that we're all well and I can spend time with her again.
