Guest guest
Has anyone else noticed how perfectly suited Indian food is for SCD? Almost all the recipes in my Indian food cookbook are legal. My kids love the lamb meatballs and tonight I thought I'd make red lamb stew. My question in son the spices. Have others been concerned that spices such as cardamon, cumin, paprika are safe? Is there a really great place to order SCD legal spices? Guest guest
" Is there a really great place to order SCD legal spices? " , We recently asked Elaine about spices. She said to buy single spices, not spice mixes. Brands vary by region and country. So, she did not recommend a particular brand. I use Frontier and someone else recently mentioned that they use Penzey's spices. I recently got a Penzey's catalog and they have a really large selection. Guest guest
Hi , Youre right, Indian food is great and almost everything is SCD legal. If you were interested in using spices, I would just go to an Indian grocery store (if you have one in your neighborhood) and get the whole spices or whole seeds. Then I would just grind them in a coffee grinder. That way you dont have to take any risks. Indian grocery stores usually carry the whole spice and the spice powder. I have 2 concerns in this respect though : 1. Spices are usually high in salicylates, so if your child has phenol intolerances, I would go easy on them. 2. Seeds are usually introduced later in the diet, and I dont know if this goes for seed powders as well. I know that cumin and lots of the powders in garam masala come from seeds. I hope someone who has done the diet longer can advise on that. Hope this helps. Deepa. ( I have thrown cumin powder, tandoori powder etc. into a lot of American dishes, and it gives it a unique flavor !!) > Has anyone else noticed how perfectly suited Indian food is for SCD? Guest guest
Just wondering if there are other types of food like this? I'm going to the library to get an Indian cookbook but I always thought Indian food was kind of spicy and I don't know how well that will go over. I'd like to try to find some recipes my whole family can enjoy for dinner so that when Zachary is ready to try new things, he has the opportunity. So far, most of the things I've tried haven't been a great hit here. Thanks Zachary 4.4 ASD? SCD 4 months
Guest guest
Hi , I make Indian food here, not as often as i'd like but... I 've written an SCD legal version of Butter chicken if you'd like. I buy my cardamon and cumin in the whole form and grind them in my coffee grinder (I only use it for spices and herbs). That way they stay fresh longer then preground spices. I occasionally buy ground cardamon and cumin because these are unlike onion and garlic which are hygroscopic (prone to pick up moisture). So there is no need for anti-caking additives in the cumin, cardamon or paprika. FYI, Commercial Curry powder is not legal. That falls under the category of a spice mixture, like apple pie spice etc. There are legal recipes for legal curry powder. There is one in Lucy's SCD cookbook. Elsewise, you can probably get a recipe from the internet that tell you what goes in to make a " curry " powder recipe. Sheila, 3 years SCD!
