I'm real sorry to hear what you're going

through.

Can't your new doctor resquest the medical

records? I ask this because that's the practice

here (I'm in Canada) If I want my records I'd

have to pay but if my doctor requests them she

can get them.

One would think it would be against some law to

hold one's medical care hostage by not allowing

a new doctor to have access to the records of

past treatment.

Guess that's the difference of the two countries

Is it possible to, if you have to, deal for

some records? What about disability don't they

have special dispersments for such occassions?

Good luck

Hello

I had a problem with one of my doctors it was a primary doctor. I went there

for about 25 years. I changed Dr because I need a dr that does critical care,

and when they asked for medical records they only sent the 5 pages that was in

the new file but not the other 8 files that was in the back. So if you have a

lot of files you need to tell the new dr that he needs to get all files, not

just the current one

have a great day.

Will all doctors request them.  The doctors I have talked to said I need to have

them faxed over prior to the visit.

For the patient yes but not for the doctor. If you are concerned what is in the

chart you can read it without a charge, but for dr to dr records there is never

a charge.

My experience has been a little different. Only Kaiser charged me when

I answered " continuity of care " or " personal files " when I requested

records. I've done this lots of times since I keep my own complete file

at home after discovering how many mistakes were in my records.

Providence says they charge, but even with multiple requests of

hundreds of pages, no bill. Seems arbitrary and miserly to me. But I've

never had a doctor be charged for it, at least not that flowed down to

my bill.
