Hi Phyllis,

Some people think diabetes is the end of the world. Cancer was not the end

of the world for me, so why should I let diabetes be. I could not control

the cancer, other than doing everything my doctor told me to do and by taking

care of myself. I can control diabetes and I will. Diabetes has made me a

much healthier person. If by some miracle, I was healed of diabetes today, I

would not go back to my old way of living. I'm enjoying myself and life too

much to go back to the way I was. Sure, there are going to be bad days. If

everything was perfect, none of us would have diabetes or any other

illnesses. How well we handle our problems is based on our attitude toward

it. I intend to keep a very positive attitude and live a long life (but not

get old) with all my body parts working.

Phyllis, with your attitude you will succeed.

When my mother was dying in the hospital 15 years ago, I would sit in

the waiting room where I knew everybody. It was a very small hospital in

a small southern town.

They kept bringing people in the front door on stretchers. I would say

who's that. Some of the ladies would say " Oh that's , he's

from the rest home. " I would say why are they bring him in? They would

say, " Oh he is diabetic and they're cutting his leg off "

Well it just went on day after day, patient after patient. Pretty

depressing. Then the guy I worked with last year. A great guy and he was

very skinny. He was type 1. When he was out for a few weeks, I asked

where he was.

Well they had cut his foot off. He got very depressed and didn't really

take his insulin or check his sugars for several months.

After those two experiences, it got my attention real fast! Talk about

the denial leaving you.

I like the list because we get alot of people on here who are taking

care of themselves and still have all their limbs. This is encouraging

to me to keep trying.

Thanks Phyllis, When it comes to diabetes denial is a very bad thing. My

dad was told he had pre diabetes a few years ago (back when they used

pre) and when he was at my house a few months ago I took his blood and

it was 250. I then of course encouraged him by telling him the nice

tricks that I learned and how food really does try to accommodate us

diabetics now.

Yesterday I called my mom and she said that my dad still has not gone to

the doctor for a test or bought any test strips or changed his diet one

bit...

His mom and two brothers lost their legs ....

I will try to talk to him again but its not easy..sus
