Guest guest
Hi, It seems as though I have endless questions regarding the stages. Since oil is not suggested until stage 3, what are people using for " pan fried? " thanks, Cece
Guest guest
Hi Cece, If not ready for oil, people would likely be either poaching on the pan or using non -stick surfaces. If you think you may be ready for a little oil and or butter just try snmall amounts first and gradually increase if all goes well. Also please remember that it is not a timeline but rather a very general guide for those just starting the diet and unsure of what to move onto next. For example someone just starting the diet should not have deep fried meat or vegetables. It is much harder to digest because the deep frying takes water out of the food* - This is why food on the intro diet is boiled, broiled or poached. As the gut heals deep fried food may be tolerated much better. Baking vegetables, meats etc. with or without some oil falls in between these two categories. * Same reason why especially at the beginning of the diet all juices should be diluted - diluted juices are gentler on a damaged gut. Guest guest
My eternal reminder: The stages are not mandatory and not official SCD protocol but they are a carefully designed guideline based on one caring mom's experience (Jody G. ) and are helpful when one's own imagination gets stalled. Guest guest
Cece, Pan frying would be using a small amount of oil or the meat's own fat content to fry it. Hamburgers don't need oil to be pan fried. Even ground turkey has enough fat in it to fry hamburgers out of it without needing oil. The chart was just created to remind people to go slow and cook/peel/seed everything to start with. Deep frying is not a terribly healthy way to make anything. I know that the carrot curls are tasty and make a good treat. But deep frying is not really the best choice for healthy cooking.
