Guest guest
My vision is deteriorating and the antibiotics they gave me are not working. Does anyone have any eye problems related to their Crohns or PSC. Uveitis etc.. How Uveitis treated and what the symptoms?. Andi
Guest guest
Hi Andi, Sorry to hear you're still suffering. I have to confess I am one of the lucky ones (!!) in having regular attacks of uveitis for the last 13 years. In December I was delighted to learn that I have bilateral cataracts, which have appeared within the last 9 months since my last eye check-up. My opthalmologist tells me they are possibly going to be fast growing, although only time will tell, and that they are probably the result of persistent, low-grade, sub-clinical inflammation from the uveitis, exaggerated by the frequent use of high dose steroids in the last 3 years since the necrotising pancreatitis. I can barely read the highway road signs at times and my vision is very variable at present. In the last two weeks I have real problems with the " snowflake " appearance of oncoming car headlights at night. Because my lenses still have some flexibility my vision is now " unstable " . Apparently I have to wait till they are " stable and bad " before glasses will be of consistent help and then till the cataracts are " glasses resistant " bad before I can have surgery............. Probably I will be able to have surgery earlier rather than later because I live alone, need to drive, and have to be able to do everything for myself. Not to mention trying to see small fetal defects in my paltry attempts to " work " !! The symptoms of uveitis are unmistakable and once an attack has been diagnosed the symptoms are immediately recognisable - it's like having herpes simples - at the first sign of that tingling on your lip you know that a herpes will appear. Uveitis is extremely painful and not like pink-eye or conjunctivitis at all. With my first attack of uveitis my pupil became small and fixed and I had acute glaucoma to go with it. I and Luanne and ?? have posted in the fairly recent past on this subject - I just tried to find those posts in the archives - I couldn't access them. You might have better luck if you try, probably I was doing something wrong. If there is any chance you might have uveitis get it checked out right away - if you're not sure, get it checked out anyway. If you catch the attacks early (like those herpes) you can treat very quickly and with a rapid response. The treatment I received was steroid drops the first time, along with a " lens opener " to treat the glaucoma. Since then I have been prescribed indocid drops with great success. Have you had your eyes tested recently ? I hate to say it but at " your age " visual acuity can begin to go downhill as a " normal " finding. Good luck.
