Is anyone using this supposed sugar-free bacon successfully? loves it,

which leads me to believe he shouldn't have it (sad but true for my little guy).

Here are the ingredients: " cured with water, sodium phosphates, sodium

erythorbate, sodium nitrate "

I am going back to a strict intro diet this weekend, then nut butter recipes

only, added slowly. I am investigating his diet carefully to see if there is

anything he should not be having. just hasn't gone to the " next level "

yet and I want to see if there is anything more I can be doing dietarily.

I haven't used that brand of bacon.... but just thought I'd chime in. If sodium

phosphate is the same thing I'm thinking of that is injected into most pork in

supermarkets these days (I think it's used as a tenderizer), I can just tell you

that I know it makes ME personally feel yucky. I don't know what it is..... a

type of salt, I guess.... but if I eat much of it, I will find that I can't

sleep well that night. My husband and son don't have any problem with it at

all..... though I never give Katera any meats that have any type of additives.

The other two ingredients in your list are preservatives, I know..... and I'm

sure they aren't good for us..... maybe his little body is just extremely

sensitive. I don't think any of these are illegal..... but if his body says

" no " , then it's illegal for HIM. Not illegal SCD-wise..... but nevertheless a

no-no for now. We just have to go by how the kids feel and do.

We use the Gwaltney bacon - it has no sugar, I think its labeled

lower fat or something like that - its in a green box.

ADam does not seem to have a problem with it. We give it to him

once a week.

Then again, he never had an obvious reaction with ham (nitrates)

when he was GFCF either.

Hi Alice,

Those ingredients are in the bacon I use. And yes, I am a huge bacon fiend.

Always " aching for the bacon " . But we usually have it only once a week - three

reasons:

1.) takes too long to cook it for my kids (they are starving in the a.m. and

will chew on my leg if I don't feed them pretty quick. So we just have it on

the weekend when DH get distract and protect my leg.

2.) it is quite expensive, about $4.00/ pkg and we are on a budget

3.) when I was very sensitive (last year after an unhappy run in Bifidum

bacteria - long story for another day) I would react to the bacon. Mind you at

that point I was reacting to just about everything. I was on a very basic diet

of boiled meat and pureed green beans for a long time.

Now, I handle the bacon quite well but I still save it for a weekend treat.
