Does this mean that RM--Abilene is closing also? Or where in West Texas are

you talking about. The only one that I know of is Abilene as they lost Big

Springs sometime back. What about Waco, anyone know? If they are only

going to have 2 operations, that would mean that they will keep (maybe) Ft.

Worth and Waco? Those are the only two large city operations that they

have,,,for now anyway.

Just wondering

I would echo that sentiment. R/M will probably " survive " I would be more

concerned about the hundreds of people out of a job, and the thousands that

will summarily be without EMS service.

Having worked in the Pasadena area (both as a medic and as an ER nurse),

I remember the frequent flip-flops of the musical ambulance services. It

was annoying, and gave private EMS a black eye.

However, the good people found work, and the others went back to whatever

it was they did before.

I am of the opinion that good EMS people will be able to practice, the

only difference will be the color of their shirt and perhaps a more

jaundiced view of private enterprise.

IF you have been following the Rural Metro Saga since late last year you

will see that the company has been in turmoil. With the resignation of 2

CEO's and the most recent CEO, (Jack Brucker) trying to stabilize their cash

flow and analyzing the companies performance it was decided upon

announcement of their second-quarter earnings, (a loss of $42.4 million).

Rural/Metro announced prior to that it intended to take charges of up to $75

million spread between its first and second quarters, which means $75

million to close operations, pay early contract termination's and

severance's. This is all part of their restructuring plan would be

implemented, thus ceasing operations in several non emergency markets.

The moral of the story, Bigger is not necessarily better and/or Sweat the

small stuff, it is important too, (Take care of Your A/R).

I too am concern about those, (friends and colleagues) that are employed

there at this time but the patients are still going to be there and still

need to be moved and we as an EMS community survied prior to the Corporate

Giants getting into EMS and we will survive after they leave.

If anyone is to blame, look at their leadership in sdale and Texas that

started operations overnight and will leave just as quick. These people

have questinable ethics and a lack of moral and no understanding of what

this industry is truely about.

We hope that you enjoyed you visit, please do not bother to write.

Hey Folks...If you haven't already heard there is yet another computer virus

out there. This one is similar to the -K virus...it's more like a

worm..but, it is bad, nonetheless. Please DO NOT open any e-mail the have a

subject along the lines of 'I Love You Letters'...or the like. EVEN if the

sender is known to you. That is how the virus is spreading...My sister

received the virus when she opened her e-mail from a close friend. The

friend never sent her an e-mail. Make sense? Good Luck!

Bravo Mr. . This is a true fact beyond any others. If you want to

practice paramedicine go where you can practice it and it you want to have a

new employer every other year, don't complain! While some people are stuck

in the city they live in and have to work for whomever buys them next, I

suggest they try hard to find a good 911 third service (City operated) or

convince their citizens that they need to start one. It is a matter of Life

and Health.

I hate to be the one to let the cat out of the bag. But R/M is closing some

of their 911 areas also. I happen to have a friend in Grayson Co. who is

out of a 911, 24-48 job as of Aug 31. Originally, they were told they would

be closing the doors on June 30, but then recieved a small reprieve until

August. I am currently a R/M employee myself in GP, so I knew I would be

losing my job this summer. The word we have heard around the R/M grapevine

is the only operations in TX that would remain open are Arlington, Ft Worth

and Pampa.

Just spoke with some friends of mine that work for RM in both Bastrop and San

. Both are shutting down. Bastrop RM service will be taken over by the

county with no loss in jobs for the current medics. As for San , they

are just shutting down.

Are you saying that Bastrop County is going to start up their own County EMS

System?

I know that the person that was over this service has gone back to Waco,

where he was a supervisor before going to Bastrop County.

OK, I was wrong, and got some bad info. Bastrop RM will not be run by Bastrop

County, but from what I gathered when I was in the RM station the other day,

they will be going BYE BYE. But who will run the new service? Austin EMS,

it's the latest rumor anyway.
