Guest guest
The below came off the GSO homepage. ///begin AA/// I find this remarkable - firstly *self-diagnosis* is advocated, rather than using a physician, and *then* the reference to medical testimony is made. Secondly, as i've said before, the APA's DSM IV doesnt even *use the concept* of alcoholism. I dont know if the AMA is different - but somehow i doubt that *all* medical testimony would say it was progressive and incurable " in the usual sense of the term " . In the " usual sense of the term " anyone who stops drinking for a significant period has manifestly cured themselves of an alcohol problem. it is the AA/Disease Model concept of immutability that it anomalous. In any event, how can " all available medical testimony " make a comment on something that *only the individual* can say that they have? this illustrates extremely well the social construction of 'alcoholism'. ///End AA/// Pete ---------------------- Cool Briton I sometimes wonder if I have multiple personality disorder But we cant agree on it PERSONALITY-DISORDERS LIST: http://rdz.acor.org/athenaeum/lists.phtml?personality-disorders _____________________ ______________________________________________________________________
