Shortly after I first started as a dispatcher a few years ago,

An outof town alarm company called in a commercial burglary alarm

at... and the operator with a thick accent slowly sounded it out...

Karaoke Windows... which is how it I put it on the run card...

There wasn't a business listing attached to that address.

After the dispatcher said that on the air, she paused and said,

" Correction - Cherokee Windows " ...

I didn't see the original post about the Volvo... but I can only

imagine... There's a " Volvo " incident in the history of our center.

One of the raisin dispatchers that has since retired was reading a

BOL on the air for 2 b/m in a blu volvo... but she repeatedly mis-pronounced

Volvo as a part of anatomy... the officers kept asking her to repeat the BOL

over the air... finally she cursed, and asked what was up, and it was explained

to her the mistake she made.

We also have, well, a bunch of officers who can't say Mitsubishi... it comes

out kind of like mishishsishsihsishsishshi or something like that...

Another officer, actually a detective now, can't say " registration " ... I can't

even attempt to say it the way he says it...

I remember way back many years ago when I was just released from training, an

officer requested a " rolling 28/29 " . As luck would have it, it came back

stolen. Well, I was so excited (my first real serious incident to handle)

that the first question I asked was, " Is it occupied? " . There was a moment of

silence (to regain his composure I'm sure after my comment) then he came back

on the radio and said.. " I hope so, we're still north bound on .......get me

some more units this way " Then the mic clicks started..Then phone calls came

in... " Did that new guy say what we think he said? " I was soooo embarrassed.

It will never be forgotten.

Mine was not really a tongue trip, but it was funny

nonetheless.

I was training on regional dispatch. One of the

deputies had checked out on something and right after

that, another deputy came up on the service channel.

Just before I acknowledged him, my trainer said, " Look

what you did to so and so. " (I had done it wrong.) I

keyed up to acknowledge the deputy and looked at my

mistake at the same time and said, " B33. Dammit! "

The dammit was to myself but I forgot to unkey the

mike before I said it. The deputy thought I was mad

at him. hehe

Rolling 28/29. As opposed to a stopped 28/29 or meandering or etc.

I don't know which one was worse you or the officer.

Of course you could have answered, " A sitting response to your rolling 28/29

is.... "

A few years ago one person had to work two consoles. We had to monitor

both police console and fire/medical console. (thank goodness that we have

changed that). ANYWAY, One day a co-worker was very busy. All of a sudden

there was a domestic and a fire happening at the same time. An officer was

requesting a warrants check on a subject... my co-worker said,

" Standby....I'm on FIRE " . :)
