Guest guest
Can you guys describe the rash? We have ongoing issues with rash around the mouth, and I still haven't figured it out! Guest guest
I don't know that the rash is die off. That's just something someone else suggested in the archive. Both my NT 2 yo and my asd 4yo have it. It's just a strip of red skin under their lower lips. It appeared after we started the yogurt. They both use pacifiers, and I read in the archives that some pediatricians say it's caused by yeast and the saliva collecting under the pacifier, which appears to be much worse in the winter for some reason. (Maybe because dry skin is more vulnerable?) Anyway, I don't know why it came after the yogurt if it is a yeast infection. Or it might have been a coincidence. One mother wrote in that it went away with regular use of oil of oregano, so I've been thinking about trying that. We're also reducing the pacifier. Wish I had any answers, Rosemary
Guest guest
Okay, sorry, I have nothing helpful to add. Both my girls get pinpoint red dots between their upper lips and noses from " smile line to smile line " . I don't know why, but it doesn't sound at all like what you're speaking of. Hang in there! Guest guest
Patti-- This is the discussion that I read in the archives. It's confusing because there was another mom who wrote in about a rash her child had elsewhere. It sounded much more severe than the mouth rash. I believe that Elaine thought that that might be impetigo. But in any case there were 2 rash discussions going on at the same time. I will look into the question at my son's preschool and see if it's going around. Thanks, Rosemary
Guest guest
I just looked up impetigo on the web. Here's a url: kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/impetigo.html It's a bacterial infection and apparently is serious and highly contagious. It usually begins with blisters that burst and then form a brown or yellow crust. I don't think it sounds like this mouth rash because I've never seen signs of blisters and it's just red. It isn't spreading. But it's not impossible that that's what it is. We certainly should all look into it. Rosemary
Guest guest
I don't know if this is what's going on with your child or not, but when I hit six months on SCD I started getting eczema on my hands, which I had never had before on my life. It lasted about 3 months. When I mentioned it on this list, surprisingly two other moms reported the same phenomena. So there is a possibility that the rash is a detox reaction.... You might need prescription medication (topical, not oral) in order to clear it up. I used to work for a Dermatologist and esp. when it came to children, they usually bend over backwards to help them. Does it bother him? Does he try to itch it? mom to 4 asd, 22 months sd, o.t. issues. Re: Re: red rash Re: describe the red rash On his top lip, it's barely visible, just a bit darker red on the upper line and elevated slightly. On the bottom it looks like a bad lipstick job or clown lips. It's a semi-circle, fluctuates from bright red to mild red, it's a little bit bumpy. I've tried various creams, vaseline, etc. I see him licking it and know the moisture is a problem so I've considered putting a band-aid after the vaseline, just to seal it up, but haven't yet. It's been a long time...nearly 4 weeks. Marissa collin, 4.5 asd; scd since jan. 1, 2004
Guest guest
Hi... I somehow missed this post a few days ago... we have the same red mouth rash and had it a few weeks ago too... I remembered reading in the archives about the mouth rash and I assume it is die off of some sort. I initially thought it was toxicity to Vitamin A but ruled that out after stopping Vitamin A and having it reoccur when we were not taking it. I assume die off. Guest guest
, Did you have the rash (eczema) and then did it go away for good? Does it ever resurface? I ask because 's facial rash (which doesn't look like eczema) seems to be cyclical. Sue (From Pickering)
Guest guest
Actually, what was weird is the eczema moved around on my hands - first one area would have it, then that patch would clear and a new area would have it. Eventually all the skin on the backs of my hands, backs of thumbs, and around my wrists got eczema, and then it finally went away for good. Poor you! (and of course poor !) At this point, since you're going on vacation, is there an ILLEGAL enzyme that has worked for you? If so, I would use it, because this will be short term, and after your vacation, you can always go back to working on the " purity " aspect. Just my opinion. Hi Soha, Here's what I've learned after reading posts for 10 months: The parents who do the intro diet get the fastest results. It is recommended as part of the SCD protocol. If you REALLY CAN'T do it, (like we couldn't), better to get 100% on SCD legal foods. You can always backtrack later. Sue (From Pickering) Mom to , 4, formerly? Hi Monika, Yes, many of us have seen gut healing in our children. My daughter had " pudding poop " and after SCD moved to constipation, and now normal stools (with the help of a tiny bit of magnesium). She had a very bloated tummy which disappeared in a few weeks. You need to start with the intro diet, and go slowly as you introduce new foods. This board will be very helpful for you in implementing SCD. Welcome, Sue (From Pickering) Mom to , 4, formerly? Thanks, I figured that would be the case. I'll just cut back on my own, personal consumption of it (it's too yummy w/ berries, etc) and leave it the way it is. It's best this way for the kids, anyhow. in NC Mom of Luke, age 5, Asperger's/highly sensitive to phenols & salicylates/diarrhea & gas problems; , age 3, healthy; and , 19 mos, healthy All SCD 1 1/2 weeks Re: skim yogurt?
