Guest guest
My doctor only uses saliva tests and believes they are more accurate than blood tests...but not sure how he came to that conclusion. kenkyuu2 <kenkyuu2@...> wrote: I have an appointment with an HRT Doctor that uses saliva tests instead of blood test to measure hormone levels. Does anyone have any experience with the accuracy of saliva tests? They sound like they would not be as effective as a blood test but I have no experience to base that on. Any comments? Guest guest
I never did one but have read posts here that they are not any good but that could be the lab if you have a good lab and you only use that lab what harm can it do. If you do a test be it blood or saliva and send it to two different labs you will get a result that is not the same and off a lot. Guest guest
I know of no one who is considered an industry leader who feels this way. I think your doctor has been duped by the lab that sells these tests. > I have an appointment with an HRT Doctor that uses saliva tests > instead of blood test to measure hormone levels. Guest guest
I agree with that 100%. From a patient point of view who has used saliva tests my experience also tells me that they of extremely unrleiable/questionable methodology. e.g I had one blood test that put my T level at 18nmol/l well with range, one week earlier (I was on a constatnt T dosage via 7.5g testogel)I had a saliva test which told me that my testosterone was four times the top of their range measured in pg/ml. When hospitals and top endocrine centers start using saliva tests ahead of bloods then yea maybe they will be worth consideration, but until the day- they should not be considered good enough for us- at least that is my thinking on the matter. > > I have an appointment with an HRT Doctor that uses saliva tests > > instead of blood test to measure hormone levels. Guest guest
This is just the kind of evidence which proves the point. > > > I have an appointment with an HRT Doctor that uses saliva tests > > > instead of blood test to measure hormone levels. Guest guest
A little off topic as it doesn't deal with a strictly hypogonadal issue, but I suffer from hypercortisolism (which DID cause my hypogonadal state, so there is a connection). What is interesting is that the specialist Endo (he is a Cushing's Disease specialist) uses a urine test (24-hour Urinary Free Cortisol test) to determine if my daily cortisol levels are still elevated - and uses a " Late Night Salivary Cortisol test " to determine if my daily cycle of cortisol secretion is still normal (i.e., lowest point of cortisol is at time frame of 11 PM to 1 AM). When the late night tests were first established they strictly used serum draws (blood tests) for those determinations, but most have switched over to Late Night Salivary testing as it made more sense logistically (what Labs are opn at Midnote?) - and was found to be something like 99.8% as accurate as the serum draws. But the same Endo will use a serum test to get a specific test reading following a specific test (such as a dexamethasone suppression test for example). Personally, I think that they all have certain advantages and disadvantages - and will be more utilized by the medical profession at different points of testing based on their advantages and disadvantages. Strictly for purposes of reader review and consideration: http://www.drgrisanti.com/salivary_testing.htm http://medpolicy.unicare.com/policies/medicine/saliv_horm_tests.html http://www.wwgonline.net/new_page_41.htm http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=163spit http://www.worldhealth.net/p/264,4926.html (American Academy of Anti Aging Medicine Article) Larry P.S. I have only personally used prescribed saliva tests as performed as part of said Late Night Cortisol testing process. > > I have an appointment with an HRT Doctor that uses saliva tests > > instead of blood test to measure hormone levels. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply..my doc did test for estradiol...but on the saliva test there is no mention of it. Upon the results I am meeting with him and will be bringing up the fact. Also the fact of how can we compare data from two diffrent collection methods. He did recommend an estradiol blocker(Indinol plus) to take with my compounded creme. My concerns are my sex drive came back for about two weeks...now has subsided. My energy level and focus are still much improved...so I am receiving some benefits. The return of mr woody would be a welcome event though. > > > > I went to a naturopathic doctor with all the symptoms of low > > testosterone. Guest guest
If you used this blocker and got some good wood the lose it it means your E2 is now down to low stop using it and when your wood comes back that day go back on it but do less. This is why I liked Indolplex/DIM it comes in tablets that you can cut I did good a long time on one half a tablet. http://www.ritecare.com/prodsheets/PHY-15336.html Today I use Arimidex .25mgs every 3 days. ddrivernkc <ddrivernkc@...> wrote: Thanks for the reply..my doc did test for estradiol...but on the saliva test there is no mention of it. Guest guest
Ah-ha!!! didn't think of that...gonna go off the blocker for a few days and see what happens. I went for my tests today and he is doing a blood test for free and total and PSA. Saliva for T only..hmm...but no retest for estradiol. > > > > > > I went to a naturopathic doctor with all the symptoms of low > > > testosterone. Guest guest
If you have been like this a long time it might take longer the a few days. I would give it at least a week. ddrivernkc <ddrivernkc@...> wrote: Ah-ha!!! didn't think of that...gonna go off the blocker for a few days and see what happens.
