Guest guest
I have switched him to white grape juice, which I believe is not phenolic (correct me if I am wrong). If he didn't have white grape I do not know what he would drink, he cannot tolerate orange and will not touch pineapple or tomato. I really think it is the gelatin but maybe I will try a different juice next time, in about a month or two! Thanks! Alice Alice, It is highly possible that your son is reacting to the grape juice rather than the gelatin. Grapes are highly phenolic, and my son still cannot tolerate them. Maybe try a different juice and see if that makes a difference.
Guest guest
it took me a while to work out that i don't really tolerate grape juice, white or red but i can eat peeled grapes no prob. you will likely beenfit from zinc and molybdenum as per my minerals page which i now feel restrained from posting as this is somehow perceived as 'illegal' meaning 'i don't want to know' some gelatin is essential as it provides glutamine....i don't like the store bought gelatines, the best i find is to pour the juice from say a slow roasted(225F) chicken in a jug and when it cools enough you can use a straw to suck up the collagenous juice below the fat, sort like chicken soup. scd without minerals is not really possible imo. > I have switched him to white grape juice, which I believe is not phenolic (correct me if I am wrong). Guest guest
Per his physician, does get minerals, which I happily bake into his muffins. I am certain that the reactions has are from the gelatin, since he drinks the juice all day long but only has the reactions after eating the Knox gelatin. I just want to have people know to watch out for reactions when starting to add gelatin, since some kids just can't tolerate it. It took me a while to figure it out with since it was " legal " . Guest guest
As for the white grapes, I'll say this - back before SCD, when I went from apple juice to white grape my son did much better (phenol reaction-wise). But when I went from white grape to pear he did MUCH MUCH better. Pears are very, very low. If you could home juice? I know it's hard, this is just my experience. Guest guest
You've got me thinking, isn't gelatin used to make marshmallows? Luke goes BONKERS, positively WILD if he eats marshmallows. I tried them on 2 different occasions before SCD and he had the same reaction, I figured it was something in the " natural flavors " , never considered it could be the gelatin itself? He's never had gelatin in any other form, won't touch jello. Wonder what it DOES? in NC Mom of Luke, age 5, Asperger's/highly sensitive to phenols & salicylates/diarrhea & gas problems; , age 3, healthy; and , 19 mos, healthy All SCD 1 1/2 weeks Re: Re: Phenolic Grape Juice Per his physician, does get minerals, which I happily bake into his muffins. Guest guest
My daughter was given a very high dose of l-glutamine, 5000mg., by her naturopath and she went bonkers. It took her days to get over it. It also made her seizures worse. I think I read in the Enzymes book that some people do not tolerate it well. But as said, it is often used to heal the gut. > > Hi Alice, > > Gelatin is very high in free glutamate. It could be that this is > what > > your child is reacting to. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I was unable to use the link but I am sure that I can get the info in free glutamate from a Google search. Phenolic Grape Juice Hi Alice, Gelatin is very high in free glutamate. It could be that this is what your child is reacting to. See this link for more info. http://members.ozemail.com.au/~btrudget/Karls%20Pages/Managing%20Amines%2 0and%20MSG/Managing%20Amines.htm SCD tends to eliminate most glutamate containing foods just by eliminating processed foods, but gelatin is very high glutamate. , mom to , ASD (5), SCD 5 mos. and Ana, NT (3) I am certain that the reactions has are from the gelatin, since he drinks the juice all day long but only has the reactions after eating the Knox gelatin.
