I think I always knew from the beginning - my sponsor was a

whacko.

Trouble was, he ran a rehab and many ppl thought he was God.

also, he was a qualified private doc and had a

pseudo-scientific air abt him - he was very clever, Oxford

graduate, rich and succesful - and amazingly slim and fit

for a middle-aged man - he ran the London marathon at 53.

this was a guy who had had bad weight problems for years

previously.

But what he told me just didnt fit the facts - and he

contradicted himself all the time too. Some days

depression was caused by ones genetic addictive disease,

other days you *chose* to get depressed. Anorexics became

so because they were afraid they'd binge (many have never

binged). any eating disordered person can never eat sugar

(many have no problem with sugar). Abuse only " woke up "

addiction, whatever that meant.

there were so many warning signs. but i didnt get out until

i lost my job straight after coming out of his rehab. that

was my responsibility generally, but i was suffering from a

serious dysthymic disorde which, thru his active

discouragement, went untreated. he indicated

antidepressants were addictive (they are not) and likened

there use to usin g cocaine. The SOB should be struck off

for that.

Hi Everyone.

here.

From the beginning I knew there was something wrong with AA, but over

a period of many years, and three separate recommendations from

proffessionals, I finally caved in and suspended my better judgement. I went

to AA, got a sponsor I thought was okay, and did nearly everything she said.

She is a terrific comedy story--a Clancey sponsee herself, at 11 years sober

she still called him. An enormous woman, she eventually had to start

going around town in a little golf cart because she had too much trouble

walking. Her house was such a stupendous mess that she simply couldn't

keep a houscleaner, even though the disablity people were willing to pay one.

She made incredible demands of everyone she knew, including me. I could

go on and on. Finally, I moved on. Each sponsor was as bad as the next.

The last sponsor I had was a born-again Xtian, who also had some kind of

mental problem. This did not show up right away, of course. She seemed

really together at first. Her house too was so filthy that it had attracted

rats.

She constantly suspected me of going against her rules and regulations, even

though I had never agreed to follow them to begin with. Melodramas would

take place in her mind. Once, she came bursting in, without knocking, to

a home where I worked taking care of an Alzheimer's patient. Since the last

time I'd seen her, a melodrama had taken place in her mind concerning a

homeless bum I knew who I'd give a cup of coffee to from time to time. She

began to rant and rave that if he ever shows up drunk, I should call the police.

She was really bonkers. When I fired her, she called all my friends to try to

talk to them about me, filled my message recorder with strange messages,

went to meetings every night to talk about me. She began to attend my

home group. She'd sit behind me. I could feel her hate. It was an awful

experience, especially since I had confided in her many things.

This woman is still going to meetings. Because she has around 9 years of

sobriety by now, she was in charge of the newcomers meeting for awhile. She

is still being allowed by the groups to inflict her emotional illness upon the

vulnerable. I am not the only former sponsee of hers who ended the

relationship afraid of her. I talked to a couple others later, but no one will

do anything about it

Sincerely,

.
