Guest guest
I used to 'chat' often, but been busy with everyday life, which includes being on-call for my BPD (hermit) mom. One week before Christmas, Dad was diagnosed with dementia (Alzheimers) and in the evaluation to the Dementia Unit at the VA on New Year's Eve, he " exhibited psychotic behavior " (rolling on the floor, shouting at Satan, etc). After 2 months of evaluation, his psychiatrist there told me he has chronic paranoid schizophrenia. My 60 year old sister, who is the 'full screen version' of Annette Benning's role in " Running with Scissors " (didn't catch that until I saw the movie) is teaming up with Dad (now in a nursing home equipped to handle both dementia and schizophrenia) to tell me in no uncertain terms how I am putting him in there to rot, have never cared about him, stolen his money (all $750 a month of it - I'm using it to pay off his debts), taken his home property (he had none) and so on. But she's " not going to interfere with my decision and will pray for my soul. " I'm now Mom's favorite child again because she never wants to see Dad again and I'm 'protecting her'. She says she now sees that I do what I say and my sister doesn't ---then 5 minutes later, she's defending my 'poor sister' and swishing between personalitites. I've been in and out of courtrooms gettting legal permission to handle Dad's finances and care, and the same psychiatrist who said he needed a guardian when he 'only had dementia', says he doesn't need one now (after being diagnosed with dementia and paranoid schizophrenia). So --as columnist Dave Barry once wrote: " Would somebody please feel sorry for me because I feel sorry for myself and that's really not something you want to do by yourself. " Ah me.. -Leslye
