Guest guest
I don't know if there's any possibility that this is the cause of your rash, but Zachary was getting a rash similar to what you are describing. For him, it was the enzymes. Depending on how I give them to him, they sometimes cause him to get a rash either above or below his lips. Basically, if they come into contact with his skin, he gets the rash. Zachary 4.4 ASD? SCD 3+ months
Guest guest
It sounds like a rash that is a mild allergic reaction to something. I can think of a couple of possibilities. 1. Enzymes as someone suggested and they might not have to touch the outside. I think that you mentioned they use pacifiers so the saliva is guaranteed to get on their lips. Maybe don't let them have pacifiers for 30+ min after enzymes. 2. Acidic Saliva (my younger kids get a rash if they drink pure orange juice w/o water or too much tomato...) 3. Allergic reaction to something like a supplement - most supps have fillers and I've had funny reactions to them at times - a rash on the stomach, itchy eyes.... Abby SCD 3 weeks Jame 6.5 AS..... Guest guest
The only way we can be sure to avoid this rash with the enzymes is to give it in the capsule. When I have given the enzymes in a spill proof sippy cup in diluted juice, he almost always gets the rash and I wouldn't have thought they would touch his lips that way. Zachary 4.4 ASD? Guest guest
Patti, impetigo is bacterial. I think hand foot and mouth disease is viral. Both are pretty contagious and can cause a rashy like display. I vaguely remember those e-mails but don't remember what it turned out to be. Take care, steph o mom to ben pdd/adhd scd 16 mos Re: Re: red rash I am just barely remembering this....... but it seems like there was a " rash " of mouth and lip rashes that occurred on Elaine's Children not long after I first joined the list last spring. A few of the parents eventually found out from their pediatricians that their child had impetigo.... I think that's the right name (????). I just remember a few parents describing this as their child looking like they had really bad chapped lips..... as if they had been licking out around their lips and beyond and it had just chapped from saliva contact (which is still a possibility)..... but then one parent noticed other kids (non SCD kids) on the school playground with the same rash and turned to the doctor. I think it's viral. Something to check out anyway..... might not be diet related at all. Anyone else remember this from many months back on the list?? Guest guest
I don't know if this helps anyone but hand/foot/mouth doesn't look like what I've read you all describe. Luke had it one summer - bad blisters INSIDE the mouth/tongue/throat, just awful, and then big raised red blotches on hands and feet. Plus fever at the onset, if I remember, pretty low grade. One of the worst illnesses I've experienced as a Mom, overall, though. in NC Mom of Luke, age 5, Asperger's/diarrhea problems; , age 3, healthy; and , 19 mos, healthy SCD 1 week+ Re: Re: red rash I am just barely remembering this....... but it seems like there was a " rash " of mouth and lip rashes that occurred on Elaine's Children not long after I first joined the list last spring.
