Guest guest
Lou, Michigan is a bit better than the national average (in terms of transplanting when MELD numbers are low) Nationally 31% are transplanted when their MELD score is below 19, 47% when it is 25+. In MI the percentages are 49% <19, 21% 25+ Utah has done the best job of transplanting patients before they are critically ill. Only 3% (one patient) had a MELD of 25+, 90% had MELD scores below 19. All this data came from http://www.optn.org/latestData/advancedData.asp It is based on the 2208 transplant that have been recorded into the database since the inception of the use of MELD to allocate liver transplants. Since it is based on such a small set of data (about 6 months) the statistical variation from the means that I have calculated could be up to 5 percentage points - especially for states with small numbers of transplants. The actual data is very interesting and can be looked at in many different ways, subdividing for gender, age, blood type, region, state, tx center, transplant year, citizenship, ethnicity, donor relation, donor type (living or deceased), and many others to get information about donors, transplants and the waiting list. Tim R > Tim, do you have the statistics for Michigan - What percentage of transplants are done when MELD scores are under 20, etc. Also, where did you come up with these facts. > Lou, mom of Josh, DX with strange form of PSC (or they belive it will turn into PSC) along with overlapping symptoms of PBC
