Guest guest
I've been associated with this site for several years as a caregiver for my mom who has been dx'd with LBD for at least 5 years; she is 78 years old. She experienced a rapid decline when she was given risperadol at the very beginning of this disgusting disease. For the past 5-6 years we've been able to keep her relatively stable and she never lost the ability to eat. Over the past two weeks we thought she had a cold/virus and that was the reason for her congestion but this wasn't the case. She is in the hospital now and the prognosis isn't so good; although she passed her swallow evaluation test her mucous saliva etc appear to be dripping onto her vocal cords and I assume into her lungs. At this very late stage she doesn't know enough to cough to clear. I've devoted my life to her care and always had much hope until now. I am tired as is she but I still have a little fight in me to at least write this e-mail to see if there remain any options that you wonderful people might know of? I did read some past e-mails regarding VitalStim therapy (dysphagia treatment). Is anyone familiar with this treatment specific to LBD? I know bottom line the brain is the underlying problem here. Any thoughts or help would be very much appreciated. I will take her to the neurologist in NYC once she is out of the hospital this week. Best to all of you!
