Guest guest
Before I run out and grab my trailer hitch and chain, I have this question. Why are we moving the monument? I'm new to the group and may have missed the argument why TDH is not suited to have this monument. It sounds reasonable that EMS folk would gather at TDH instead of the State Capitol building. Any comments? ______________________________________________________
Guest guest
The people that go to the Health Dept are on business, and it is out of the way. When you look at numbers you'll see a few Million more go to the state capitol. When you tour the capitol grounds you will find the monuments to the Firefighters, Law Enforcement, ect' . They are at the capitol (the center of our state government) grounds because of they're great sacrifices over the years. Ask anyone that has toured the Capitol City of Texas and ask them if they ever saw the EMS Monument, or where it is at. Every year 10,000's school children go to the capitol and not TDH. Don't we want the children to learn about EMS. At the Capitol they give tours all day explaining what everything means and it's history to young and old alike. There is no tour of TDH. If we are to be recognized as one of the three emergency services then we should do this and several other things. Take a guide tour of the capitol, and then TDH sometime. Guest guest
I forgot one thing. I think you'd be surprised how many EMS people go to the capitol. TDH just had two days of EMS meeting their with GETAC, and will probably have the next meeting there all EMS people. Guest guest
Very well said, Ron. All public safety memorials should be at the Capitol. After all, they died in the line of duty for the service of the citizens of the State of Texas. Guest guest
I agree that it should be moved to the capitol. This monument is not just for EMS personnel but for everyone to see what members of the EMS family have given their lives for. It is a tribute to those who died in the line of duty and should be placed where there is more access by the public. So I say move it. ---------- To: <egroups> Subject: Re: EMS Monument Relocation ect; Date: Sun, Mar 26, 2000, 2:01 AM Very well said, Ron. All public safety memorials should be at the Capitol. Guest guest
Just a small clarification: the EMS monument is a tribute to all in the EMS profession. The EMS Hall of Honor, a plaque hanging inside the Bureau, honors those who died in the line of duty. The names of those who died are inscribed on that plaque. We induct people in the Hall of Honor at the awards luncheon at the conference in November. If you know of anyone who died in the line of duty, please don't assume that we at the Bureau know about it. Send us the information anyway. Guest guest
It seems to me that the best reason to move the monument is simple respect all other public service monuments are on the capitol grounds. How many people visit TDH for tourisim reasons keeping the monument on TDH sight keeps it hidden from the majority of the public. The monument should be moved to the grounds of the capitol not only out of respect for EMS as a hole but also out of respect for those who have given there lives while serving the citizens of the State of Texas.
