Guest guest
Dee, I don't think so. E-bay needs to establish a sellers credibility and commitment - they had a real learning experience with that one. The question that stopped me was the bank account question. I solved that by setting up a separate account with very limited resources. I also used a low limit charge card. They have a responsibility to protect their business also. They use the credibility/commitment approach to weed out a lot of the bogus and prank sellers. The other information they're asking for is readily available anyway - it just makes it easier for them to track down the bogus sellers. I signed on to ebay to sell some items, I heard from different, second hand of course, people who are very successful at this and profitable with this at home service. I had to go for verification to a site that walked me thru questions to establish my credibility as a seller and real person. Some of the things they asked me were VISA # and expiration date, SS#, drivers license #, verify my car payment amount.

If so how, I tried to get to a real person, customer service and Help icon, but to no avail. It only gave me Ex: Help= how to sell, buy, etc. Ex: Customer Service= a list of books that were for sale. I did not sleep last night worrying and we all have been told never to give out these #'s. They even asked for my bank and routing # to make direct deposits for anything I sell. There was a $5 fee that has been charged to my account and they say they bill me by email. Whoa--have I opened a can of worms or what? Guest guest
Dee, My oldest son has been selling and buying things on e-Bay for 5 years, and hasn’t yet had a problem. To reassure yourself, you should take advantage of any electronic access to your bank account and credit card, that you have available (both the bank where I have my checking account, and the institution that issued my Visa Card, offer on-line services for free, and I check both each day to make sure there’s no unexplained activity in them). Guest guest
Steve: By gollie we sure know who are the computer amatuers and the pros. I am the first, scared silly by all you here. I am not savy enough to pay on line accounts. My friends husband passed away last year and he did all the on line banking, it was a complete nightmare for her. The debits kept coming and the credits stopped (pension, ss, etc.) it scare the beegeebies out of me but I will call and see how I can at least check transactions on checking and keep the balance low. Thanks so very much Dee Dee, My oldest son has been selling and buying things on e-Bay for 5 years, and hasn't yet had a problem.
