you'll find some posts about IV chelation here:

/files/ANDY_INDEX

look in the section called something like " steady bloodstream

level of chelators and " bad " protocols " . There is a little

clump of posts about IV DMPS.

You might also want to read http://www.dmpsbackfire.com/default.shtml

This is a website devoted to the dangers of chelating with DMPS,

which I think means IV DMPS.

I know a woman who is using IV DMPS chelation because she can't tolerate oral

DMSA or DMPS. She finds the oral route causes too much irritation in the

bowels, and she generally feels better using the IV DMPS.

I have An osteopath friend whom is an alternative doctor and does IV chelation.

I have had IV EDTA for clearing arteries of ionic CA+ and have done IV DMPS to

reduce inflammation/swelling following injuries.

Go to Dr. Fudenberg's site .You should be able to find him under search. He

is an immunologist that has credentials an arm long. He is also a member (or

was) of the National Institute of Health. He states that autism IS CAUSED BY

THE VACCINES and goes on to dictate which vaccines cause which type of

autism and the appropiate chelation protocol.

My son and I both did several rounds of IV DMPS and found it to be very

effective at removing metals with less side effects than we had on oral

chelators. You do want to be sure that the doctor monitors you very

carefully when going this route (just like with the oral route) as some

people have had some negative reactions to it. Also, DMPS does not cross the

BBB so you need to follow up with some oral chelation to pull metals from the

brain.

I haven't heard of anyone on this list doing chelation this way. We mostly do

either oral or transdermal. With few exceptions we all do dosing that is 3-4

hours apart for 3 days and then resting for a few days between rounds. I found

a website one night that was warning of the dangers of IV chelation when large

doses are given. If you are new to this group, look in our archives. I may be

wrong but I would be extremely wary of a doctor who thought you could just give

bolus doses of chelating agents.

We give the doses close together because as you pull the metals out of the body

there needs to be a constant amount of the supplement to get it out of the body.

Without this the metals will be pulled but only reabsorbed by the body causing

harm. This happens anyway with the 3/4 hour dosing but since you aren't pulling

out as much there isn't as much to reabsorb. If a large amount of chelating

agent is given a large amount will come out of the tissues but since the meds

are stopped the metals can't all make it out before it wears off, thus the

reabsorption.

Please look more into this and consider the DMSA/ALA or DMPS route. We are all

having much success with that. We are using the DMSA and ALA and it is going

really well.

Good luck,

For better or for worse, more and more DAN! doctors are starting to

use IV-EDTA pushes to remove lead. Many parents of Apraxic kids are

finding this to be incredibly helpful. This may be what is being

referred to. As far as I know, although EDTA is supposed to be a

reasonably safe chelator (it is all relative, right?), but I don't

remember it ever really being discussed here, though I have not

searched the archives....

I think (not positive) that IV chelation is still very common

with " alternative " doctors who treat adults. Usually done with

DMPS. It is an extreme example of a dangerous protocol.

You can read DMPS backfire if you want to get scared out of your

wits.

http://www.dmpsbackfire.com/default.shtml

I think it is the method/dose/timing that is the problem.

(The author of the website above thinks DMPS is just plain

dangerous, I believe.)

This won't be much help, but on another list someone posted their

story--one year of DMSA/ALA with no improvement but then big

improvement with IV EDTA. The post stuck in my mind because it was

the first time I'd read about successful IV chelation (I'd only read

plenty of horror stories before that). It also stuck in my mind

because obviously lead was a huge issue with that person, and my ds

has lead problems. It may have been the ABMD list. Perhaps someone

with a better memory can confirm/deny that and you could make

contact with that person Rima.

There has recently been significant discussion regarding this on the

CK2 listserve. A number of parents have seen apparently remarkable

results where they had not been able to move forward with other

chelation methods before. They attribute this to the lead. There

are other forms of EDTA chelation, including suppositories

(Detoxamin) and Bio-Chelat. Bio-Chelat is supposed to be very slow,

but you can read about it at a number of websites. There is also a

Detoxamin website that you can find if on google. According to my

reading (of other list serves), using Detoxamin suppositories for

four days has yielded the same positive results as an EDTA push

(which appears to be the IV everyone is discussing, but it only takes

a minute or two). This seems to have been most beneficial for kids

with apraxia/low tone, etc. If you are on that list, you can search

the recent archives. I posted a number of questions about all of the

different forms of EDTA chelation for lead (my son has apraxia...)

and not one person had anything bad to say about the IV. Still

scares the daylights out of me, but that is what happened. Hope this

helps.

I would like more info on the idea that lead and speech apraxia may be

linked my 3 year old has severe articulation issues. I've never heard of it

before and it sounds intriguing. We are doing TD-DMPS Buttar protocol but

thought long and hard about detoximin.

I doubt if there are any studies in that regard. All I can tell you

is what I have read of other kids'/parents experiences,

understanding, as we all have to, that there are times we see what we

want to see because we care for our kids so much. That said, I read

some pretty compelling testimonies about the positive effects of EDTA

and apraxic kids. It's kind of the new rage in the DAN! doc.

community (much like b-12 shots were which, I must say, have made a

noticeable difference for my son). I think Dr. Usman was really the

first to be doing it. Of course, it all needs to be examined

carefully..... There are good messages on CK2 on this though, and a

number of parents (me not included) who have done this, whether in

the suppository or IV form (haven't heard much about oral EDTA except

for Bio-Chelat....

Wish I could be of more help.

Oh yeah, I think on this list serve as well as on CK2 someone posted

a response they received to a series of questions they posed of Boyd

Hailey and he thinks generally that EDTA is a very safe chelator. If

you search the archives for EDTA it should come up.

I would honestly consider the Detoxamin if I weren't dealing with

such a history of constipation in my son, and thus suppositories.

After several rounds of oral chelation, my son and I switched to IV. This

was a few years before the DAN folks started chelating. I choose to switch

because I had a gut feeling that the DMSA wasn't being absorbed as well as it

could be due to our gut problems. While I have read the negative reports on the

DMPSbackfire site and agree everyone should proceed very cautiously, those I

personally know who have done chelation through IV have only experienced

positive effects. In fact, my son and I experienced far less negative " healing

crisis " type effects with IV than we did with oral (which we also did for

another

year after completing 9 rounds of IV). We were very careful to remineralize

afterwards and our doctor ran regular blood and urine tests to ensure that our

bodies could handle and were handling the chelation properly. We were mainly

dealing with arsenic and mercury but also both had some lead and nickel along

with a few other toxic metals. My son only used DMPS but I also had two EDTA

infusions. The DMPS worked much better for me as far as removing metals.

Gretchen, It depends on what you consider "luck". There are many people (not implant victims alone) who have had EDTA chelation therapy that have cleared up heart disease for them. You can read about them in books such as "Forty-something Forever". It really depends on your heavy metal load and the specific chelating agent you use, as well as the health care practitioner's knowledge in properly utilizing chelation therapy, as to whether or not you are going to have "any luck" with it. There are dangers associated with using the wrong chelating agent, so it is not something I would enter into lightly. I had chelation therapy, but only the DMSA pills which were chosen because of the mercury load I tested positive for. Lab tests showed the mercury was removed. I have not seen very many women discuss using chelation

therapy with any success on this group....certainly not enough to recommend it as a way to attain healing from breast implant exposure....though IF platinum is a huge issue, then chelation therapy may be one of the best ways to remove it. The key is to know if you have a platinum issue or not. Patty". .Gretchen. ." <gretchenc@...> wrote: i wonder if anyone has had any luck with this?-- gretchen

Gretchen,

I did all three, urine Challenge test, blood and a hair analysis by

Doctors Data. You can do the hair analysis from Doctors Data

without having a doctor order the test.

All three of my test, gave me three differet results. Go figure!

I did not have a good experience with chelating....but I may try it

again. If I do I think I will ask Patty where she got the DMSA. I

used something with both DMSA and EDTA in it ...as well as d-

penicillamine which is awful stuff. !

When I had heavy metal testing done, I had a hair analysis. I wonder if

they can analyze your hair to see when you were healthy and when you got

sick somehow. It would be an interesting question for a lab since your hair

grows so slowly. Perhaps they could test the end of your hair and the hair

closest to your scalp for comparison.

Have you ever taken dl-Methionine to help with heavy metals? I have

a product called Redoxal HMF. My doctor said it was sulfur

based...and attached to the metals to help your body eliminate

them.

I think this " heavy metals " thing might be the next thing I go to

,

Look up Modified Citrus Pectin or MCP, for chelating heavy metals. It has been scientifically proven to work. I don't know why more people who have high metal levels aren't taking it.
