Guest guest
My husband's doc told him to start drinking wine again. He feels (the doc, and now my spouse too) that the benefits far outweigh any possible risk. We're talking about a glass with dinner type of thing. Guest guest
....and USC's policy for jim (as with all other USC's transplantees) is zero alcohol... even if it's just a trace amount in desserts or sauces or vinaigrette salad dressings or even non-alcoholic beer... (and even if it is believed to be "cooked off" in cooking, a culinary study ordered by president bush showed that alcohol is not cooked completely off.) so when we pick and choose from a menu, we strive to stay away from it in any form, whenever we possibly can. at the grocery store, we read labels very carefully... then endeavor to stay brand loyal to foods containing no traces of alcohol. jim eats by rote... has oatmeal every morning for breakfast... and salad almost every night for dinner. anyway, for her dad's Christmas present this year, jillian (our culinary wonder!) went out and bought 2 beautiful corked bottles, then developed some awesome vinaigrettes (raspberry and boysenberry) containing no wine vinegars. she incorporated herbs from our garden. i have to say she did an absolutely wonderful job! all that to say this: there's an extremely wide range of opinions out there on the subject of alcohol for PSCers/transplanted PSCers, to be sure. where jim stands on this is: he figures he's decided to be 100% compliant to whatever USC tells him to do, period... and since they say positively no alcohol, then (for us at least) that's that. we both figure USC's directive -- plus the fact he got himself the humongous benefit of his son's liver -- factor into jim's consistently great labs. in other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. maureen -----Original Message-----From: & Lois Cowan Sent: Sunday, December 29, 2002 4:01 AMTo: Subject: wineMy husband's doc told him to start drinking wine again.
