Well, based on those numbers, your serum creatinine is going up a bit, and

your creatinine clearance is less - the usual pattern for slowly progressing

IgAN. If the 2.4 grams is 24 hr proteinuria, that's a little on the high

side, but not dramatically so. You would probably want to get that down if

you can. Are you taking an ACE inhibitor?

Pierre

Understanding the numbers

> thanks for the previous responses. I now have my med records. These are

some of the numbers I see - Creatinine 1.7 clearance 61 and 2.4 grams -

this was 1-10 -03. Previously on 11-13-01 creatinine was 1.3 clearance 94.

What other info should I be interested in? Thanks again Harley

Thanks Pierre, Yes I am on 20 mg lisinpril. Are there any other numbers that

are of concern. My Neph doc felt I was borderline nephrotic range and has

started me on prednisone. I am doing the solu-Medrol 1 gram IV on months 1,3,5

and 40 mg prednisone every other day - are you familiar with this? Is this

early intervention? Harley

Sounds like your neph is already treating the proteinuria fairly

agressively, even though it's under the number usually considered to be

nephrotic range. You're the first person I've ever heard of on this group

being given IV steroids. 40 mg oral prednisone every other day is not

unusual. It will be interesting to see how your proteinuria improves after a

few months.

I will keep you posted - just started a week ago - I will have more questions in

the future. What a great group to have available, I have had a lot of worries

since the biopsy in January, the info on this site has helped already. Thanks

Hi crystal,

I didn't realise your daughter had been on IV steroids.

Yes, steroids are usually pretty effective in bringing down heavy

proteinuria.

Hi Crystal,

I had been stable with iga for many years - I think my first signs were when I

was 12. I am now 36. My numbers changed in the last year. Previously only on

10 mg lisinipril for high BP. Currently taking 20 mg Lisinipril, 40 mg

Predisone every other day, Protonix 40 mg, Oscal 500+d(vitamin) and Fosomax 1x

per week. I was curious as to why my doctor didn't prescribe azathioprine for

me? That seems to go along with the predisone treatment? I think I might

start the fish oil thing?

Hihanks.e , Harley,

You said you were alright since the diagnosis at 12 until now. Can you tell me

what's the history of your condition between age 12 and now? T

,

The protein in my urine was found in 1993 during a routine physical. The

years previous to 1993 i did not know of iga. In fact, until my check upi n

december of 2002, I didnt even ask the doctor to diagnose (guess) at what I had.

He was only treating my high Bp(145/90) with 5 mg of lisinipril. I would visit

my doc once a year for blood work - 24 urine - ect.. I would notice darker

urine when i would get real sick otherwise no symptoms to date. Hope this helps

- Harley
