my vein did stick out while it was there.....and mine stayed sore the whole

time it was in, only because the doctor who put it in put the wrong kind in,

he should have used a shallow one and he didn't, also it was sitting on top

of my bone and it shouldn't have been up that far......i found this out when

they took it out wed......carol.

Its not new i had it done 7yrs ago i have rolling veins so right off they

did it with me before chemo started i had to have this done because couldn't

take chances with adrimicin getting out vein, i could of kept it in me all

my life but you had to go every month after chemo was through to have it

flush out with the kit mine was big in me and what they would do with me

every for chemo or to flush and like they said some medical institutions

don't do this but they would put a novacane shot in port before getting iv's

and all to start on me they would draw blood first make sure it was in place

for chemo really with the kind veins i have dr's said would of been good to

have it kept in me but it was a hassle because my drs office was 2 hr drive

and its was not known back than in my area but Carolyn i really enjoy it had

no problems with it and when they took it out was like a little surgery but

wasn't put to sleep i didn't have to go to surgery room just surgery in dr

office they numb me and had a sheet in front of me were i couldn't see what

they were doing dr Fleming said i don't want you bossing me it was laser to

take it out didn't feel nothing so good luck girl and see some people have

the small needle and some had the large, depends on size of port if it was

hurting you than your port was probably small and needed just the small

needle to put in port ,that i bet the problem was well talk later

oh yes at first it was very tender and it hurt like i said they did this

surgery 3 weeks after masectomy,i said the masectomy didnt hurt like the

port did but i guess because it was in the jugular vein i couldnt lie down

because of the pressure in that jugular it hurt like 3-4 days than was

better but everybody that was going through chemo help me on that becasuse

they had same thing but it was so much easier even if they give you a shot

went through there and your blood test as well it rally help but mine swole

i felt like my throat was closing up got scare went to dr he said this was

normal

Oh dear Jeana,

Have you changed what you have been regularly eating? Or are you eating a lot of

gassy foods? I know they advertise Beano to help stop the gas but I have never

used it. I will keep you in my prayers. One other thought. Are you on any

different meds?

Hugs

question

Ok Ladies (smartest on the planet) since we can talk about anyting

here, I have a question. For about a week I have started having the

most rude gas, its like something crawled up inside me an died. My

husband has all but banned me to the barn. I am constipated (sort of)

I feel bloated, nauseus in the mornings, headachy. I have never had

gas so bad in my life, it is constant all day. Any ideas.

I cant believe I am actually going to posted this. lol

Jeana -- Are you on chemo? What you're describing is consistent with

side effects from some chemo. The cells of the GI (gastrointestinal)

tract are fast-growing cells and get killed off just like cancer and

other fast-growing cells in your body. While your GI tract is

growing new cells, your system may not work correctly or digest your

food correctly, and you end up with constipation, diarrhea, bloating,

lots of gas, and sometimes nasty intestinal cramps. I'd suggest that

you call your doctor and talk about these side effects. I've found

that taking Imodium can help. You also may need a diuretic for the

bloatedness and headachy feeling.

If you're not on chemo, I'd still suggest checking with your doctor,

but I don't know the cause for all your symptoms. I do know that

there are many women in treatment for BC who have GI problems, so

don't feel all alone. Funny what we can talk about easily and what

really embarrasses us.

Good luck!

DJ

I forget, Jeana. Are you on chemo now? Because it causes constipation and

being constipated can make you *very* gassy. Whether you're on chemo or

not, I'd recommend Senokot (an all-natural vegetable based laxative) and

maybe a Fleet enema. Also Simethecone, the ingredient in over-the-counter

anti-gas products, works really well. I have this problem a lot and always

keep some generic anti-gas meds around. If the chewable kind make you sick,

it also comes in gelatin capsules.

Best of luck. I know how rotten this problem can make you feel (let alone

smell!) Sometimes I can't stand to sleep in my own bed because of the

smell, and all I can wear is a loose nightgown with nothing under it.

Be well soon,

Jill
