Hi Carolyn,

You are less likely to get side effects from Radiation, than from Chemo. You

sound a though you are doing so well with Chemo, albeit you have had one lot of

treatment. My experience having both Chemo and Radiation together (Combination)

no problems with Radiation whatsoever, at the very end of the Radiation I got

very weary and needed to sleep, but apart from that, Radiation was a breeze. I

had Radiation to both breasts, because of Tumours Bilaterally. Hence both breast

removed with surgery. My diagnosis was Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, Stage 3b.

Good luck Carolyn, I am sure you will find, if you choose to go with Radiation,

no problems really. Skins gets a bit burnt. I had 30 treatments and going along

every day, except for the day that I had chemo, it was the every day bit, that

was tiring.

Hugs,

Dianne (NZ)

Re: Question

Thank you marianne, my doc put 3 anti nausea drugs into my IV chemo,

also i have 2 different kind of pills he gave me for nausea, but i dont

even have to take them, im doing fine without them. He wants me to have

radiation treatments to be on the safe side, but told him i have to

think it over. I couldnt go through the bone scan because of my phobia,

but he said he would put me out so i can go through with it, so when i

go for my chemo next week i might get the bone scan, have to work up the

courage~LOL~Can you tell me what side effects you get with radiation??,

im very concerened about that. THANK YOU for your help angel~Hugggee

Hi nne,

Yes you right going along everyday for Radiation is the worst part. Initially

they mark out where they are going to radiate, and in my case, created a plaster

mask for my arms to rest in, so that each time you went along they set you up

and bingo it was over. Truly by the time they left the room, flicked the button,

they were back taking you off the bed. It took longer getting on the bed. LOL.

The bone scan, once again, the worst part was the time it took. There the easy

bits, but I guess we all handle things differently.

I am sure Carolyn will be back talking about it later, and saying the same as us

all.

Hugs

Carolyn,

Lumps can appear in the scar tissue, or in the chest wall so to speak. The first

reocurrance after the original diagnosis, was in the muscle, so they the removed

remaining muscle. Now just last week another lump back in the same place in the

chest wall area. She went in to hospital in the morning and was home late

afternoon, wouldn't stay in there, came around to visit me the next day.O:-)

Have you read the book of Jane Plants, think that is the right name. I have

given the book to Janine to read. If you can get a copy have a read.

Interesting.

Love ya Carolyn.

PS: you follow your oncologist Carolyn, he will know whats best for you.

oh i didn't mind not haveing any hair, its only about an inch and a half

long now, nice and cool and i don't have to worry bout drying or curling it

just comb it back and go!~LOL..I am currently in the clear, with hormone

treatment i am do to have another ct scan next month, oh boy, i just hate

those cuz i am allergic to the contrast and have to take pre-med's . i

never wore a wig, except on my wedding day last oct. first off it was way

too hot and itchy and i really prefered the 'ditty rag' cuz when i got a hot

flash i would just soak it with cool water and put it back on my head, that

really help cool me off!~lol

when the dragon came back the 2nd time, it came back on the side i had my

breast removed, you see when they do a radical, they do leave some breast

tissue covering the muscle. and mine came back in the remaining breast

tissue in the same spot where i had the lump, when they did the 2nd surgery

, they removed the remaining breast tissue and took some of the muscle too,

i had more pain from the 2nd surgery than from the 1st.

and you don't ask too many questions, if you don't ask, you won't know , so

ask away!~LOL

hugs, carol

Carolyn, sometimes lumps form on the chest wall...especially if all

the cancer was not taken or treated. I don't think this happens very

often, but I know of at least one person who had it happen to her.

Hi Carolyn,

A surgeon always hopes that he has got it all, and we hope he is right. That is

why they back it up with Radiation.

The cancerous nodes are a confirmation that the cancer has moved, from the

breast. Cheomtherapy is a treatment for the system and Radiation is for the

local.

Hugs again

Dianne

Re: Question

Dont know if i allready told you this, but my surgeon said he got all of

my cancer out, that as far as my chest there is no more cancer there,

its the noids that there worried about, the 3 that had it in them.

Dear Carolyn,

I have never heard of a port being port in thru your juglar vein, that is your

main artery!!??

Generally they put it in thru the top part up near the shoulder.

I leave this open for others in the group. It must be very new Carolyn.

Hugs again

The port it self is in the upper part of my chest on the right side, my

left breast was the one they took off. But he went into my juglar vein

for some reason, when i first told my big c doc he said oh no that wont

do, but when he looked into a book he had, like i said he was very

pleased by what the surgeon did. It still baffles me, when i go next

week for my chemo, i know my surgeon will come in and see me, im going

to ask him to explain it to me and ill let you know what he

said~Hugs~Carolyn~

Carolyn

that's exactly how they did mine left breast was cut and port was in right

side through jugular vein that surgery hurt me at first more than the

mastectomy i mean first couple hrs because it was sore in the vein area i

couldn't lay back would hurt but girl this way is so much easier and not as

painful they didn't take my port out until 2 years after cancer because they

said first two yrs is your crucial ones heh i miss my little knot its 7yrs

now but you will have much better no needles picking you

I agree best ask him Carolyn, mine was in the upper part of the chest, but thats

all I know. And that was because I had very small veins, that were causing

problems, when they were putting the intravenous in each time I went. I had 10

treamtents and I am pleased they used the port, it saved my hands becoming black

and blue.

They are the experts in what is best. Thats the technical side of things.

Will be thinking of you.Do you mind me asking how old you are?

Big Hugs ((((((Carolyn)))))
