Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for your suggestions. I liked the idea of adding the prune juice to the honey syrup which I already make. I reread the constipation protocol Elaine wrote on the info website and it states that one should be on the intro diet for two to three days before attempting the prune nectar/juice. So what would you guys recommend for a pancake type breakfast that doesn't involve eggs or almond flour? Or should I just continue with the GFCF pancakes and add the prune juice to the honey syrup and once he starts eliminating better switch to an egg pancake/peanut butter pancake/or banana pancake? Like I said before, I need to be out of the door quite early to drive another child to school, so I can't just switch cold turkey. He is doing well with the steamed carrots, steamed pears and steamed butternut squash for lunch and dinner which I added one at a time over a span of a few months. We had an OT recommend to force feed him when he was 3 years old because he was self limiting and that was a disaster as he refused to take new food from me for the next 3- 4 years. He is quite obstinate. Thanks again for your help and take care, Becky in Chesapeake, VA P.S. Yes, I know about the DAN but haven't thought about going yet because of finances although it would be a lot less expensive to go to this one than one on the west coast:) Maybe I can justify it in those terms!! Guest guest
Try the sneaky veggie pancakes for the transition. Use pureed, well-steamed zucchini instead of squash. Or if you have a problem getting meat into him use half chicken have zucchini to make the pancakes. Does he drink enough? Constipation can often be helped by drinking more water. Guest guest
> Please drop those old " you know what " pancakes. Are we looking at just waiting > a few days to Warm the 'cold turkey " transition? > Hi Carol and Jody, Carol, I do not want to misinterpret your comment above about waiting a few days to warm the " cold turkey " ...what do you mean?? I have tried to drop the GFCF pancakes several times which is the only GFCF food we are feeding him. The first try was with the Almond flour pancakes which he loved but worsened his constiption. The second time was with the very ripe banana pancakes which also worsened his constipation. The third time was with scrambled eggs only and that also worsened his constipation. Each of these tries was for a week at a time and the only way to get slightly softer stools and every day elimination was with the GFCF pancakes or during chelation rounds with DMSA. So it isn't like I haven't tried to switch to a SCD breakfast, which is the reason I was searching for some type of " pancake " to give him which would not constipate him and still look like a pancake so he would not reject what was offered, hence go into a temper tantrum because he was hungry and hypoglycemic. Breakfast is not a good time to try to change anything as the kids are hungry and want to eat NOW and I have other kids to drive to school in the morning. So we are nearly there as far as legal foods for the SC diet except for breakfast and occasional french fries when we are traveling. I have always cooked from scratch, so it is not a new adjustment for me to cook SCD foods, just the type of food is the difference. Thanks Jody for the Zuchinni pancake suggestion, I'll try that type of pancake next. Carol, if you have any other breakfast suggestion, I would certainly appreciate your thoughts. Guest guest
" Thanks Jody for the Zuchinni pancake suggestion, I'll try that type of pancake next. " I just had another idea. Do you give him supplements in the morning? What about adding a small amount of magnesium in the mornings. A few other parents have been reporting how a small amount of magnesium has helped with constipation. (and make sure to pack a snack for those trips and skip the fries.) Guest guest
I'm not Carol but want to let you know about an apple pancake recipe that's on SCDRecipe.com (it's the second recipe under " Breakfast " ). All it has in it is apples and eggs. They don't exactly look like regular pancakes, but my son loved them when I made them for the first time this morning. I might process the eggs and apples together next time and see if they look more like pancakes than hashbrowns. Guest guest
Yep, he gets 320mg of magnesium citrate divided in four doses per day and gets 4000mg of Vitamin C (beet type) divided in four doses per day also. He also drinks 8 8oz glasses of water per day to no avail, but lots of bathroom trips to pi. It is interesting to me that the DMSA helps the most and I have asked on other lists if it is the sulfur in it that is helping him but no one knows. I'm hoping the SCD will be the answer. Thanks for thinking about more things to try. Take care, Becky in Chesapeake, VA > " Thanks Jody for the Zuchinni pancake suggestion, I'll try that type > of pancake next. Guest guest
Thanks Ann, I saw that recipe in there but decided against it since apples are binding like bananas. I forgot to mention in my previous post that I even tried a pumpkin pancake and it really made him stimmy. I'm thinking it was the phenols but not sure. Guest guest
If you think it is the sulfur that's helping... have you ever tried MSM? Jody mom to -5.1 and -7.
Guest guest
Nope. I don't even know what it is. Where do you get info about that product? I will start looking it up but I also still want to do the SCD. Thanks for the thought and I'll keep you posted as I try different things.
