I have been giving my 23 month old son a teaspoon a day of almond nut yogurt

since last Saturday. Today I gave him 2 teaspoons and he seemed very hyper

and giddy. I put him down for a nap and he was laughing alot in his crib.

Do you think this could be a reaction to the almonds??? I don't understand

how the probiotics could make him giddy???

I have to say it was nice to see him so happy with soooooo much energy. I

saw a little bit of this on Saturday and Sunday but nothing that made me

concerned. But today he looked really happy and then his face broke out

(which I always attribute to die-off).

Should I discontinue the yogurt..........or maybe next time try to make

pecan nut yogurt??

By the way the almond nut yogurt is quite wonderful!!!

I think almonds are highly phenolic. Others are more experienced

and knowledgeable than me on this topic. But I think maybe if you

wait a few days and try a different nut yogurt, you may see a

difference.

You are right, they are. I'm new to SCD but unfortunately have had to become an

expert on phenols/salicylates. Pecans, hazelnuts, and cashews are lowest. It

is my HOPE that SCD will " cure " his leaky gut and allow the phenols to not be

such a problem. Honey is also highly phenolic, as are cinnamon and other

spices. Please understand, though, these are NOT BAD and only an issue for

children who are very sensitive to phenols. Luke IS but after a few months SCD

I hope we can use those things, that would be an answer to prayer. I'd much

rather do SCD than avoid high phenol foods - includes all berries, all kinds of

yummy, healthy things.

Best of luck,

I wish I were a kid again so we could compare notes on a level playing field

as I now tolerate the tree nuts I didn't at first, walnuts, almonds, brazil,

raw cashews and even the lowly cheap imitator that is actually a legume, the

peanut. And honey too. All were irritants at the start.

I enjoy nuts and sporadic mini binges of dried black figs more than the memories

of candies with sugar.
