I received the results of a needle loc biopsy last week and I am told that I have LCIS - my understanding so far is that this is the earliest stage of BC, almost pre-cancerous, but I am still very worried and scared. I don't want to interfere at all with those who have more serious situations - I am praying for all of you. I wonder if there is anyone with LCIS and what kind of treatment/surgery you experienced. Right now, my first opinion is for no surgery and five years of tamoxifen with close followup. I am 53 years old, no family history - stopped smoking one year ago after thirty years of 2-3 pack a week habit. Thanks for any help at all - hang in, everyone

Guest guest
Sounds similar to my diagnosis except I was DCIS and was told that is next to being almost zero stage. I have been on Tamoxifen for 4years and had no radiation or chemo but did have a mastectomy. doris > Hi all - This is my first time to ever post a message on a web > site. Guest guest
Oops, forgot to say, CONGRATULATIONS ON QUITTING SMOKING! I think that may have been one of the wisest decisions you have ever made. My mom died of lung cancer caused by smoking and she refused to quit even after she was diagnosed. She kept saying later...later never came for her. doris > Hi all - This is my first time to ever post a message on a web > site. Guest guest
thanks for the reply, Doris - I think I am beginning to understand the difference between DCIS and LCIS, just wish I was a little more clear about why or why not mastectomy. do you mind me asking how old you are? How has the Tamoxifen been for you - any side effects? Did you have one or both breasts removed? I'm sorry if I am sounding nosy, I just feel like my head is spinning with all the different scenarios. Thanks for the help! Guest guest
I don't mind you asking...ask all you want. I usually answer any questions that are not TOO personal. I am 65; I had the mastectomy because my doctor gave me the percentages of recurrence (not accurate but as close as he could) with or without and I chose with. I have had no regrets about losing that breast...I had just the right breast removed. Tamoxifen...oh wow...when I first started taking it and for about 6 months, I had hot flashes aka power surges a lot and I now should own the popsicle factory because they helped and I ate lots and lots of them. I also gained about 15 pounds but I understand that it will probably go when I finish next June. Now, next question...I will answer any I can.
