Guest guest
Nan, I have not had this test. Can you tell us more about it. I want to make sure it is the one I am thinking of. > > I am sch for this test in a month (that is the soonest appt). Nan >
Guest guest
Nan, I think your doctor may be wanting you to take the ACTH stimulation test. They measure cortisol response both before and after the ACTH injection. So...they can determine if your adrenals are physically/structurally o.k. and respond to a level of ACTH. It is a good test to do...but some other tests should be done as well. I don't think this test alone is the answer since it does not measure your own natural hormone levels WITHOUT stimulation. What I mean is...so what if your adrenals respond o.k during this test. If your own body is not producting enough ACTH from the Pituitary gland to get the response...then what is she going to do?. Is she doing other tests along with this ...by chance?? Have you had your own natural cortisol levels tested? Just some thoughts here. I am so used to doctors " testing " in a vacumn and coming up with nothing. I suppose I have adopted a view that to test just one piece of the puzzle may not be helpful. For ex: We tested my thyoid for years. For years...I had all low ormal values and was declared Normal. What we did not test during that time was adrenals/cortisol....which came up VERY low a month ago. For for three years I have been dog tired, unable to loose weight and gaining weight..slowly but surely despite exercise and daily calories near 1000 . ..with no explanation until now. I am upset that my doctor let me feel so bad for so long. In the initial stages of low adrenal function, people will loose weight....until the thyroid problems kick in or possibly vice versa...depending on the person. That sort of thing......... > > > > I am sch for this test in a month (that is the soonest appt). Nan > > >
Guest guest
, yes the acth stim test. She did the basic thyroid testing and glucose. What else should I have done? Which hormone tests> I could ask dr kolb to do them in two weeks when I go. Any suggestions helpful, I am with you in not trusting all these tests alone. Thanks Nan > > > > > > I am sch for this test in a month (that is the soonest appt). Nan > > > > > >

Guest guest
I have a list! I have a strange suntanned look while I am usually very pale, I can not tolerate any stress or much activity, I jump when the phone rings, I pass out every couple of weeks and can not get out of bed for a few days, have brown splotches on my neck. > > > > > > > > > > I am sch for this test in a month (that is the soonest > appt). > > Nan > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Nan, If your doctor tests your adrenal glands, your sex hormones and does a full thyroid panel...I think that is a good place to start. The thyroid panel should look at TSH, Free T4, Total T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, Thyroglobulin, Thyroglubulin Antibiodies, Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin, Thyroid Peroxidase Antibioides. (I just listed everything my own doctor tested for). Your symptons you listed here....certainly may point to " adrenal " . When did you say you were going to your doctors next? I hope you are able to feel better soon...... > > > > > > > > > > > > I am sch for this test in a month (that is the soonest > > appt). > > > Nan > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
As far as I know she is doing a very limited thyroid test, never had my adrenals tested. I am leaning towards just doing the saliva test, seems like it would better measure. Adrenal problems is what I have been saying all along the whole last two years, dr said CFS, fibro, depression, anxiety. No no no. I don't think normal people jump at every sound and pass out if they over do it. I just can't sit back and not explore these things. Or I will never get better. Again, it just seems the drs have a limited view. I can't go see dr kolb every time, but I am driving there in two weeks. I would not be surprised if this dr comes back and says aww, you are fine, been there. My cario appt is tomorrow, but my adrenal testing is shc for 6 weeks, that is the EARLIEST she could get me in, hmm, passing out is not enough to get an earlier test. Thanks for your help, Nan > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am sch for this test in a month (that is the soonest > > > appt). > > > > Nan > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
It is very scary that you are passing out. I am surprised you can't get an earlier appointmnet. I agree with you, unless we research and understand our own bodies, it seems we can't get the help we need. Even when we do reseach it doesn't seem to help for me. I sure hope you feel better soon.
