Guest guest
You can't put anything down into the ear canal..... no garlic oil drops, etc..... if they have tubes. When my boys were little, getting a gentle neck adjustment from the chiropractor always helped clear ear infections up faster.... got fluid to drain better, etc. Patti Re: ear infection My boys don't usually get ear infections, but I've heard if you warm some olive oil with a clove of garlic and drop some in the infected ear, it really helps. Then put a cotton ball in the ear so it doesn't leak out. Maybe before your child goes to bed. That way he is lying down and the oil can really stay in there. Do you think this would be safe to use with tubes? My mom would do something like this when I was little, whenever we had an earache, and it definitely made it feel better. Guest guest
You can rub the garlic oil on the outside of the ear as well - rub it in well behind ear and down to the lobe. It will have some effect although not as much as putting it in the ear. Who told you not to use it in the ear with tubes? I'm not saying you should, but unless it was a doctor or pharmacist, maybe they were wrong and you should check?? Abby DavAar wrote: > Hi > my son has an ear infection, as usual. Why not ask - if AB is unavoidable - for local AB? Like drops in the ear? We used to sit these horrible infections out (4x a year at least), taking the miserable behavior for granted & all. In Holland AB is less of a habit. Marjan the Netherlands
Guest guest
we have used garlic oil and grapefruit seed extract. Both come in drop forms at the health food store and can be placed directly in the ear. From personal experience, I can say that the garlic oil warmed and then placed in the ear is very soothing. Both products have antibacterial properties. Re: ear infection > > > my son has an ear infection, as usual. Guest guest
Judy, >> All it takes is for to get a tiny drop of water in his ear, like from a bath, and then it starts to drain pus right after that. << Of course, with the hearing aids, his situation may be different, but I know that as an adult, prior to starting SCD, I was VERY prone to upper respiratory infections which clogged my ears and resulted in ear infections, and bronchitis which often escalated into pneumonia. (And this meant lots of antibiotics, which, of course, trashed my gut.) I was often sick for as much as a month, then I *might* have a month well before getting another one. Since SCD, I have had fewer and fewer of them. And am now down to about ONE a year from SIX or SEVEN a year -- and for the last two of them, spaced a year apart, I have not needed antibiotics. I did end up with them for the one two weeks ago, but that was a slightly different issue. (And I am now rebuilding my gut... oh joy!) So there may be light at the end of the tunnel which is NOT an oncoming train! <g> -- Marilyn (New Orleans, Louisiana, USA)
Guest guest
Hi my son has an ear infection, as usual. Does anyone have any recommendations other than using an antibiotic? He was prescribed Floxin Otic, which we have used many times in the past. He does have PE tubes in both ears. His right ear is draining right now. I had bought some mullein/garlic drops a while back, but then learned that you are not supposed to use them if they have tubes in the ear. thanks Judy (IBS, and who knows what else, SCD 1 month) , 3 DS and Hearing impaired. Guest guest
thanks for the responses. The floxin is an ear drop antibiotic. I have tried all sorts of things to prevent these infections but with having extremely tiny ear canals along with wearing hearing aids (makes for a constant moist envirionment) this is something that will be a problem until he gets bigger, I fear. I massage his face, especially around his ears a lot, as was taught to me by a cranial chiropractor, but that does not seem to work. All it takes is for to get a tiny drop of water in his ear, like from a bath, and then it starts to drain pus right after that. Who knows how long it sits there first! At least he is not in any pain, that he can show, anyway. thanks again!
