Guest guest
Hi, thought I'd let you know there were no varicies(none since July) in 's esphogus again.Yeah!!Her stomcah did show some red places-nothing real magor-She won't have to have an upper scope again for 6 months as long as everything goes smoothly!! Her labs were:WBC-1.7, RBC-3.7,HGB-12.6,Plts-47,PT-17.1.This is about par for the course for her.I have a question:what is RDW-CW,RDW- SD,MPV? Can someone give me a link so I can find out more about the blood flow & what happens when you have portal hypertension & liver cirrhosis?I know that eventually will have to have a shunt surgery for blood flow, but no one can predict when that might be.She is just holding her own & as she says " flying under the radar " . Thanks for anyone's input. -'s(16,PSC & UC) mom
Guest guest
, RDW is Red cell Distribution Width. Don't know what the CW or SD appendages mean. RDW is used in conjunction with Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) to check out the presence of conditions that affect the size of red blood cells. (See http://www.fpnotebook.com/HEM82.htm) For a portal hypertension site I'm going to suggest Johs Hopkins again: http://hopkins-gi.org/pages/latin/templates/?pg=disease3 & organ=2 & disease=25 & lang\ _id=1 & pagetype=12 & pagenum=283 (Or go to http://hopkins-gi.org/pages/latin/templates/ select 'Liver' in the Digestive Disease Library and portal hypertension. From there you can either read the Introduction or Select A Section to jump around at the site.)
