Guest guest
I know I've mentioned this before, but I'm really struggling with my 35-pound weight gain. I originally thought it was a side effect from the methadone, but my doctor told me it was more likely to have been the 30+ steroid shots I have received over the last year or so. My doctor said that the methadone was probably not really helping me any more, as he says my brain has adjusted to the dose. He says if I were to get off it, I would not be in any more pain than I am now. If the weight gain is from the methadone and it's not really helping me, I was thinking of trying to get off to see if the weight would come off. But if it was the steroids, how do I lose it? I guess I'm asking if y'all have gained from either of those two medications, and if so, what was the best way to lose it? I feel so frumpy and depressed, so between that and the chronic pain, I'm emotionally pretty miserable. I'd go off the methadone if it'd help with the weight loss. I have also heard that opiates affect female hormones. As I am 42 and probably teetering in the hormonal area, is it possible that hormones are to blame? Has anyone had that looked at and had their hormones adjusted with good weight loss results? Help! I don't want to be in pain but I don't want to be fat either. Has anyone figured this out? Hi Anne Your doctor is very likely correct about the steroid injections being responsible for the weight gain. I've had steroid weight gain and lost it again.(while taking narcotic medications) The first step in losing the weight is to stop taking steroids in any form. The next is to eat a healthy diet and get enough exercise to use up slightly more calories than you are taking in. It's not magic, but it is the only way to safely lose weight and keep it off. Whatever you do, don't go on any of the fad diets. They'll just keep you in yo yo mode. -- Lyndi
