yeast question

Hi,

My son, 4, has had two stool tests which showed tons of abnormal bacterial

growth but never yeast. Yet his two Organic Acid Tests I think have shown

presence of yeast metabolites (high citramalic, high 3-oxyglutaric, high

arabinose). He shows other symptoms which I feel could be attributed to

yeast; hyperactivity, hypoglycemia, occasional rear-end rash, constipation,

mood swings to name a few.

Does this seem like yeast, despite no yeast showing up on stool? If yeast

isn't present in stool, does that mean no yeast, or can there still be yeast?

Didn't someone post recently about a type of yeast not found in stool? What

types of yeast wouldn't show up in stool, and how should they be attacked?

Or does yeast not sound likely?

For the record, we're gfcfsf, have been using probiotics for six months

(Pro-Culture Gold), and have eliminated sugar, corn, yeast, egg, nuts,

artificial colorings and flavors, high salycilate and phenol foods. I

strongly suspect sulphur/phenol problems. Eating around here is really yucky.

I tried enzymes, but my son got really hyper on them, but am going to try

again and stick it out a bit longer.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Debbie

did you try the houston enzymes?

we had side effects for 3 weeks but they are helping.

but I am going to ask about the rice bran.....I am beginning to think rice is

suspect around here. we are presently cutting down, almost out, on potatoes for

a few days......his other favourite. will do them seperately, I think, then have

a go at together, in case one masks less symptoms of the other........do I make

sense?

meantime, candid-specific transfer factor seems to be helping-

still pretty bouncy, but lots more interaction, and beginning to take part in

some of the pretend play, also great eye-contact improvement.

My daughter had a bad reaction to FOS, and showed no yeast on the Great Smokies

CDSA. I was told that this was because she has cell wall-less yeast (which

doesn't show up on the CDSA) and that FOS feeds this kind of yeast (which is why

FOS is bad for some). Our DAN doctor said (if I remember correctly) that there

are 4 kinds of yeast, 2 cell wall-less and 2 with cell walls that would show up

on the stool test. If the OAT shows yeast metabolites, then you can assume

yeast is a problem. (ly, I'd assume ALL of our kids has a yeast problem.

In fact, our environmental allergist has said he feels that all ADD/ADHD kids

ought to do a trial of Nystatin.) Given all of this, my daughter responded very

well to a very low grain/low simple carbohydrate diet. Push the protein and

veggies as much as possible. Take plenty of probiotics. I'm hoping chelation

will eventually solve this mess.

You could always ramp up the enzyme dose from a tiny one, to acclimate his gut

to them. Personally, I think it's wise to ramp up on all supplements.

There are several types of yeast yes.

This also, especially if you are chelating with ALA. My son NEVER had

a yeast issue until about round 7 of ALA.

Should I have him restested or just take

him to

> the peditrician and ask for anti-yeast medication?

To get an rx I think you would have to have him tested. I use GSE

from health food store [non rx] for my son's yeast issues.

Caprylic Acid -

Found this on it today:

http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/1,1525,10111,00.html

May have to track it down online first. I'm in

Canada, so I'm likely to be useless in helping you

resource it.

Janelle,

Check your local healthfood store, there were a few brands available

at mine.

One of my kids gets goopy green eye discharge. Another one gets

whiteheads all over his body. Another one gets a red bloody rash that

he scratches all the time and makes it bleed, plus the skin on his

fingers peels. Another one gets really silly. This is in addition to

the yeast bms. Also, three of them get hyper like a phenol reaction,

and have trouble sleeping.

my son definately has yeast and we chelate. We have tried getting rid of

yeast without chelation and you never really wipe it out. Even with or I should

say especially with the 3-4 week courses of scripts. Look at all the folks

who are not mercury poisoned who have yeast problems. Go to bodyecologydiet.com

for example. My good friend, has been on CaveMan diet and

yeast/parasite/bacteria protocal for 9 months and still has flair ups. My son

has been

chealting for 2 years. In the past 7 months he has been on SCD diet minus honey

and

most fruits and rotating anti-fungals and we have been chealting and his yeast

has come DOWN. We test his urine every month for yeast. So I guess what I'm

saying is for my son who definately has yeast- diet, anti-fungal rotation and

chelation using low dose-Andy's protocal has worked at keeping the yeast from

going wild.

My son never had yeast, that I know of, but he did have yeast issues during ALA

chelation. I was able to keep it under control with

sugar *reduction* [not full removal] and GSE.

Strep can lead to PANDAS

Give it in the morning. Giving GSE without food is more effective,

but it can be *too* effective. It can also be hard on the stomach.

> I don't know how many times a day no-phenol should be given.

As often as required, and that your child tolerates.

Yes, this can mean yeast.

Possibly. Try adding probiotics, see if that helps.

Are probiotics and acidophilus the same thing?

There's no hard and fast rule here. People switch yeast killers and use what

works for their child.

[ ] Yeast Question

Ok I have been reading Dana's website alot lately, and I have a yeast

question now.

Before starting chelation we treated my sons yeast with nystatin for

about 6 weeks.

Now after starting I am using three lac, and some days culterelle,

swawson probiotic, or florasource. Do I need to both three lac and

culterelle? Should I try GSE instead? I want to make sure I am

taking care of his yeast problem.

Our doc doesn't act really thrilled with threelac, but I like it for

myself. It does make my sons bms runny though. whereas he was firmer

after the nystatin was through.

Thanks all

Depends on if these are helping his yeast problem, or if he still has

yeast despite using them.

One of my kids has this problem, usually associated with virus issues.

related?

It might be yeast related for your child.
