Guest guest
I had it done on Feb 26, 2007 and the entire cost for me (insurance) was approximately 25K. That covered everything, Hospital, doctor, surgery fees, etc. When I got the insurance statement it shows the charges and the provider discounts. Your insurance negotiates rates for everything so what ever they say they charge they are bound be the insurance rate. For example the anesthesia doctor was $1375 and the provider discount was $932.02 leaving $442.98 that insurance pays. I guess it depends on what type of insurance you have. You can probably check your policy. I guess I got good insurance since I only had to pay $200 for the whole thing. I was also fortunate that I was caught early and the cancer was contained in the prostate. Surgery after effects were pretty painless. I went home the next day and it felt achy, like you did 100 sit-ups, but not painful. I started walking on day 3 and was up to a mile by day 5. I do about 3 miles each day and feel good. Catheter removed on day 8. I went back to work 2 weeks and 1 day after the surgery. ½ days the first week and then back to full time. I have a desk job that is not physical. I am pretty much dry now, A little here and there. Going to work on the ED next. I had my follow-up PSA on Friday 3/30/07 and will get the results on Wednesday 4/4/07. Good luck on whatever you choose and hope all works out well. Guest guest
Where did you have the surgery done? Did the Dr save the nerves around the prostate? I'm 62 years old and not ready for loss of sex, did the Dr. give you any promisings that you would regain erections? but I guess that there's that possibilty with any of the cures for prostate cancer. Thanks and Good Luckrrprod wrote: I had it done on Feb 26, 2007 and the entire cost for me (insurance) was approximately 25K. Guest guest
I had it done in New Orleans and yes everything was spared. I am 61 and very active and When I see him on the 4th we are going to address the ED issues. Our agreed goals were … get rid of cancer, get dry, and then get hard. It will be 5 weeks since the surgery on Monday and I feel as though we are on schedule. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I had the DaVinci operation in August 2005. No complications during the procedure. Went in ealry one day and left at 4 PM the next afternoon. They charged me for everything, including a plastic tray and pan when I thought that I might have to vomit (they wouldn't give me the plastic lined wastepaper basket that I asked for!). My total bill was over $50,000 in San Ramon, California. The Dr.'s costs were minimal compared to what the hospital charged. Fortunately, all was covered by insurance. No wonder are medical costs are sky high. We need a major overhaul in charging practices. A neighbor of mine had the open cut operation less than 6 months later in Phoenix, Arizona and his costs were in the $25,000 range. It all depends on the area of country. Guest guest
I had the DaVinci here in Clearwater Fl. in Sept. 06, stayed overnight and the Bill was $32000. Most of which was hospital. I guess they have to pay for the Robot somehow.betoarg1 wrote: I had the DaVinci operation in August 2005. No complications during the procedure. Guest guest
Steve and betoarg1 how are things now? If you had it to do over would you have the same operation. Were the nerves around the prostate saved and is everything working now?Steve Hinds wrote: I had the DaVinci here in Clearwater Fl. in Sept. 06, stayed overnight and the Bill was $32000. Guest guest
After 19 months I am still leaking. I think it is all stress incontinence (leak some after moving, standing up, swinging a golf club, etc.) Dr.s appointment 2 weeks ago and he said I was a candidate for a male sling because I have light to moderate leakage. You can google that for all the fun details. Basically, they put a fabric against the uretha which exerts a certain pressure and prevents most leakage with my needing to exert a deliberate pressure when trying to urinate to urinate. The fabric is screwed into the pelvic bone. Surgery is between the scrotum and anus. I have been impotent since the operation. Only erection came in a VED and I could not maintain it. This morning a technician at the Dr.'s office will give me my first injection of cavojet or whatever to see what happens. Apparently, he will do a penile ultrasound at the same time to see what happens internally. I am hopeful, because this has changed my life the most since the operation. I would do it over again. I like the idea that they took it out, looked at it and confirmed that the cancer was contained within the margins of the prostate. Dr. told me that they saved the nerve bundles. My side effects are due to me and not necessarily the Dr.'s handiwork. He had done over 300 before me. The friend of mine who had the open cut surgery in Phoenix has urinary control and am not sure about his sexual functioning. You can email me here for any of the details and to just talk. Have a great day. I hope I will! If it works it will be greater than great! > > Steve and betoarg1 how are things now? If you had it to do over would you have the same operation. Guest guest
From Steve: I still have leakage although the nerves were spared. However, after 2 PSA checks my PSA reading is 0.00. As to erectile problems, I'm turning 71 in July, so it's not my #1 concern. However, my MD said that different medications should work if I want them.Judy & Butch wrote: Steve and betoarg1 how are things now? If you had it to do over would you have the same operation.
