Hi Everyone,

Todays dialysis was over before it started. After three

atempts to find the artery in an already dialysis savaged arm, it was

abandoned to be attempted when my arm has recovered sufficiently on

Tuesday next. Good thing I still have some kidney function left

albeit small. Otherwise it would be a vampire job in the neck.

Oh Derrick this is not fun for you is it, I am so sorry to hear about

your arm. Hopefully by Tuesday you will be ok to have a good session.

Have a good rest this weekend and take care of you ok.

Best wishes

Yep, I add new meaning to the term " Grumpy Old Men " .

I am angry with myself for letting this happen, but there again, not

much I could do. That's the frustrating part. That fistula is

becoming my lifeline that's for sure.

Anyhow, thanks for calming me down a little, not much I can

really do at this stage.

Oh no D, that's just awful, to go all that way. Did they say it happens

often, or at least happens to others????

I hope you don't get track marks, hehehehe..

Better luck on Tuesday.

Leonie.

Derrick,

Sorry to hear they couldn't put you on. I've heard that happens in the early

days, sometimes. Your fistula probably isn't as fully developed as mine was

when I started (I think I had more time than you did until dialysis start

after my fistula surgery). That would be my guess, anyway. I still exercise

it every day with a little 1lb hand dumbell, for 10 minutes. Ok, some days I

forget.

I'm sure you have enough kidney function that skipping one isn't going to

endanger you until the next treatment, or else they wouldn't do it this way.

I also take great care not to sleep on the darned thing - in case I might

cut off the blood flow - not that I'm suggesting you're lacking in this

regard. Other than that, I don't baby it at all.

It does happen that a fistula just doesn't develop enough. For whatever

reason, it just doesn't get enough blood flow. Did they do vein mapping on

you?

Oh Derrick,

Would that leaving the garlic out spare you from the vampire job in the

neck...

I'm so sorry that this is going down this way. We'll be rooting for you

Tuesday...

Pierre,

It probably is not as developed as yours, plus some nurses

are more experienced than others. The poor nurse who tried yesterday

was a quite upset at not being able to strike the vein but that is

the luck of the draw on both sides.

I am not aware that they have done vein mapping on me.

Cy,

I don't like the idea of tapping into the artery in the neck, I

will avoid that like the plague. As Pierre said, I will have to

exercise my arm more to develop the fistula. Roll on Tuesday.
