Hi ,

Get the book " the thyroid sourcebook " , it helped me immensely. I completely

understand as I am in a similar situation, pt on 5/01, tt on 6/0, diagnosed 6/01

and just completed the first RAI over Labor Day weekend. I am still in " hypo

hell " as I just started back on synthroid a few days ago, but I have high hopes

for this week. I am only a couple of months ahead of you. I am new to this group

too and it appears to be full of really knowledgeable, supportive people. Best

of luck to you!!

Hi

Hi,

My name is and I was just diagnosed with thyroid Cancer...I

found out it was cancer when they removed my thyroid on August 27th

2001..It wasn't up until then that anyone had even really mentioned

it...just to say oh, there is only small chance don't worry...Yeah,

well, I knew before the operation that it cancer. I'm not sure how

but I did...

Everyone keeps telling me I should get mad..Yell, scream...but, why?

I am going to put my strength and energy into getting over this and

getting on with my life whatever I have to do....

Yes, I am scared to death..My family is being very supportive..but, I

can't talk to them they are scared too..We are looking for answers

together and will fight this together but, right now....I am scared

and don't know what to do next.....I have all my appointments set up

the first appointment since surgery with the Endocrinologist on the

18th..blood work on the 10-11-01 then into the hospital on the 10-15-

01 for the RAI..but, I don't know what to expect or where to go after

that....or what to do to keep it from coming back....

Sorry about going on the way I did...

I had the same rude awakening after thyroid surgery. Went into the

operation believing it was for the removal of a non-cancerous tumor. Woke

up afterward to diagnosis of thyca and that two malignant tumors were

removed from my neck.

Hang in there, and think positive. That might be a strange concept right

now, but it's worked for me. The statistics show an amazingly good cure

rate for a very scary disease. I've done a lot of soul-searchinging in

the last few months (TT operation was July 17, 2001). I have decided to

start living and not just existing, like I had been doing.

If you get bummed out, the group is here for you!

Hi , I see you've already received some good info regarding your thyroid

cancer. I am just sending this little note to let you know you sound like a

strong young lady and I feel you will be

able to handle this just fine. Don't be scared, you will adjust, your family

will adjust. I think the key is question, question, question. Good luck.

Don't apologize. It is a big shock to wake up and find out that what was

removed was cancer. The same thing happened to me in March. Everyone said no

beforehand but I knew it was cancer and had done tons of research before the

surgery. You will find lots of company on this website. It takes awhile to get

over the shock and focus on the future. Hang in there it gets a little easier

with time.

Debbi

TT 3/7, 102.7 mci's RAI 4/26, going hypo again starting 10/6, scan again in Nov.

Hopefully no more RAI

Hey Elaine!

I lost 3-1/2 pounds!! whoo hoo! The night got even sweeter when I found out that I actually made "loser of the month"! WOW! (actually it was just "luck" because there were so many who didn't qualify for one reason or another ) I'm about ready to rent a bus and start makin' the rounds to pick everyone up and drive them to the meetings myself hahaha!

Congrats to on his loss!! Turtled isn't as bad as a gain! You'll do it!!

I'm glad you don't give up! I WILL be there I promise! (bad excuse, I know, but if I can get Mike outta here Saturday night instead of Sunday morning I will be there this Sunday - life tends to come to a complete stand-still when he is home....grrr!)

Here's to a GREAT week for all of us!! <by the way that's just red WATER my little guy is holding LOL>

HUGS!

Well I had my first radiation treatment today it took a whole 40

min.The next one the doctor told me it will probably a whole 5 min.So

I drive 52 miles to and from which takes about 45 min to get there

and back for 5 min of treatment every day for 5 wks. But I guess it

could be worse.I am only glad that the chemo is over and my hair is

growing back...Is it true that after a few treatments of radiation

you get tired alot? I was tired the whole time I was on chemo and I

figured that radiation would be different.Any advice appreciated...

Thanks for listening Eva

I had seven weeks of radiation. I got tired about the middle two weeks but felt

great before and after those two weeks. Eat plenty of good food, drink lots of

water, and let yourself sleep when you're tired. I worked throughout the

radiation, taking my lunch hour and the hour before for the treatment and to eat

a good lunch at the local Furr's cafeteria. Good luck. You may want someone to

drive you when you're tired.
