Guest guest
Darin: Yes, I had a lot of fluid retention post-tx. Part of it was due to my kidneys shutting down, of course, and dialysis for three weeks helped control it. But it was also a common response to transplant surgery, in part from being pumped with fluids and high doses of meds (prednisone and immunosuppresents, etc.) during the 10-hour surgery and afterward. Of course, lying in bed full-time didn't help that either (I was in ICU for a week and didn't get up at all until two days after my second tx). Although my abdomen was definitely swollen (my wife had to run to Target to get me some " fat clothes " ), it was my " elephant legs " (and, well, other unusually swollen parts below the waist) that surprised/shocked me the most. Reassure Suzanne that the swelling does go down in time. Once he's up walking and peeing (hopefully not at the same time) and his meds are reduced, the swelling should go away.
